Think about zinc. One of the most essential mineral nutrients, we would be lost without it. Then think Zinc. Great international food in Sheikh Zayed, inspired by zinc and based on a mantra of being as good for our bodies as it is for our palates.

Type of Cuisine & Signature Dishes

Contemporary International. A concise, appealing menu that encompasses soups, salads, starters, entrees and desserts while allowing for seasonal variety.

Signature dishes include the 600g Beef Tenderloin (for sharing), Crispy Asian Chicken Salad, Citrus Infused Salmon Gravlax, Penne Coconut Cream Grilled Salmon, Preserved Lemon Cream Chicken, Beef Tenderloin with Blue Cheese, Strawberry Puree and Spinach, Sweet Potato and Lentil Soup.

Dishes Sampled

Let’s face it. We didn’t rush into ordering simply because it was so pleasant to sit back and enjoy the music and the atmosphere at Zinc. The service team was enthusiastic and helpful, but we still wanted time to peruse what is a really original menu, while dipping our grilled bread into the spinach dip and hot tomato salsa that had arrived promptly at our table.

We settled on Crispy Fried Coconut Chicken to start, with garlic and sweet chilli dips on the side. Tender and light, the coconut casing was a great change from the ubiquitous breadcrumbs we usually encounter. The pasta had been highly recommended, so after deliberating as the choices all looked good, we opted for the Penne Coconut Cream Grilled Salmon. The idea of using coconut cream with pasta was a new one for us, but it actually tasted superb with the al dente pasta cooked perfectly and honey-glazed salmon packing loads of flavor. The dish would be a perfect solution for anyone who wants to avoid dairy products but with a weakness for creamy sauces.

Upon the manager’s recommendation, we shared the 600g Tenderloin, agreeing that it sounded excellent. It came to the table on a sizzling hot plate, complete with beautifully turned spring vegetables, fresh mushrooms, potato bonbons, a herb-mustard sauce in addition to a rich foie gras sauce. Although it was shared between two of us, it could easily have stretched to serve three or more. Tender, tasty and lean; it came cooked just as requested.

We made sure to leave space for dessert of course. Who could pass on Pavlova with Mixed Berries. Pavlova is always one of our favorites, with its contrasting crunchy and soft meringue set off with fresh cream and berries. Even though that was really a great finish to our meal we were also persuaded to try Zinc’s special Chocolate Mousse. It immediately reminded us of another old favorite, a fridge cake. Layers of crisp biscuit moulded together with chocolate mousse, it was served chilled, straight from the refrigerator. It is quite substantial, so do consider sharing!

Other Menu Options that Appealed

The Persian Spiced Australian Lamb Shank looks interesting, as does the Citrus Infused Salmon Gravlax with radish relish, fresh cream and beetroot puree.

Beverage Options Available

A wide range of smoothies, juices, mocktails and cocktails, along with beer and wine (soft options only during Ramadan, of course).

Décor & Ambience

Zinc features floor to ceiling glass windows, making it light, fresh and airy. The color palette is neutral with grey tones predominating. Burst of accent color come from lush jewel-toned aqua velvet chairs and fresh green plants that serve to break up the mix of high and low seating.

Ambience is very chilled and relaxed, we enjoyed the music playing in the background. Even though Zinc is primarily for great dining, it has an attractive ‘clubby’ vibe.

Clientele Mix & Price Range

25+, young professionals, couples and groups of friends. Price range is moderate.
