Tree Trunk is a multi-use space that is one part yoga studio and one part bistro. The restaurant that extends through multiple levels and indoor and outdoor spaces serves up international eats in what can only be described as a magical tree house. The food on the menu ranges from Italian to American but the eclectic fusion of flavors maintains its cool vibe dish after dish.
Mantra: Come as you are; a simple mantra that has brought success to this unique restaurant in the mere five months it has been open. The Bohemian inspired restaurant and yoga room has something for everyone, from a shisha on the lower patio level to a juicy steak overlooking iconic Korba.
Signatures Dishes & Dishes Sampled
Signature dishes include the Vegan Veggie Burger, Halloumi Wrap, Halloumi Salad, Seafood Pasta, Lemon Garlic Salmon.
The menu at Tree Trunk is large enough for a decent selection of choices but small enough to ensure the quality and flavor consistency of each dish. For mains, the Beef Filet Iron Steak came with a thick gravy flanked by fluffy mashed potatoes. The meat was cooked exactly to the well-done specifications and the potatoes and gravy were hearty and flavorful. The meal came presented on a tree trunk plate, carved out of an old tree, complementing the restaurant’s unique decor. The Curry Shrimp with rice was a portion large enough to feed three people with A perfectly spiced curry sauce, large prawns, and colored peppers making it tasty but not overpowering nor too spicy. For dessert, the Chocolate Brownie was the perfect blend of sweet and salty with rich vanilla ice cream and the Banana Crêpe was hot to order with perfectly ripe bananas making it the just the right amount of sweet. Sweet and delicious, both desserts came in portions large enough to share.
Other Menu Options that Appealed
Like any good restaurant, the list of appealing menu items made it hard to choose. On our next trip, we would definitely want to sink our teeth into one of the four different types of Quesadillas or the Vegetarian Halloumi Burger. The amount of vegetarian options featured on the menu was refreshing.
Décor & Ambience
You would have to spend a full day at Tree Trunk to be able to take in all of the decor that the space has to offer. The attention to detail in the space is phenomenal with not a single inch of the restaurant without a work of art adorning it.
The ambience at Tree Trunk is an experience unlike any other in Cairo. The ambiance takes you out of the hustle and bustle of the city and transports you to a quiet beach lodge in the tropics. The ambiance is soothing and tranquil making it hard to want to leave.
Beverage options: Beverage options include both hot and cold non-alcoholic drinks; soft drinks, fresh juices, as well as tea and coffee.
Clientele mix: The clientele at Tree Trunk is a genuine mix of Cairenes ranging from guests in their 30s-40s to university students studying to young hipsters out on the town. The vibe of the restaurant is welcoming to all.
Price range: Modest price range with a few higher end options but a meal out at this boho-chic restaurant definitely won’t break the bank.
