This Italian-Mediterranean restaurant in New Cairo boasts the slogan “Exceptionally Cooked” and it is no exaggeration. Lodge’s menu comprises of regional plates from all over Italy and a few authentic culinary inventions courtesy of Chef Carlo Giovanni from Naples. We enjoyed an evening dinner and left impressed.

Signature Dishes

The Caprese, various Bruschetta, a range of homemade pastas, grilled steaks.

Dishes Sampled

A basket of homemade bread was served as we waited for starters to follow. A trio of bruschetta arrived next; crunchy fresh bread topped with buffalo mozzarella and anchovies, tomato, garlic and Parmesan shavings, and a simpler mozzarella, tomato and basil. A Salmon and Pistachio Salad followed, packed with crunchy red cabbage, generous servings of smoked salmon and grilled shrimp, onions, lettuce, crushed pistachio and a creamy lemon dressing. The Caprese arrived big enough for two, fresh mozzarella made on-premises and a delicious pesto drizzled all over the cheese and tomato slice. Both are perfect lunch options for the healthy-minded. Finally, the Chicken Liver Paté was creamy and filling, served with crunchy fresh bread and certainly enough to share on a table.

For mains, we enjoyed the Pizza Preferita, Lasagna Dello Chef, and Veal don Carlo. The pizza was perfection, made with imported flour and tomatoes to ensure that true Italian taste. Perfect crust topped with fresh and chewy scamorza cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, olives and mushroom – we just couldn’t get enough of this pizza! The lasagna was also a surprise; ricotta cheese, boiled egg, minced meat, béchamel and tomato sauce, and … boiled peas! Surprisingly delicious and super filling.

The Veal Don Carlo was beautifully tender with a sauce comprising of artichokes, sun-dried tomato and mint. Served with grilled veggies and creamy mashed potatoes, this is a standout dish that had us scrapping the plate.

With very little room to spare, we finished off the meal with a Caramel Cheesecake, made fresh on premises, and the Semifreddo Al Caffe, a sponge cake with homemade cappuccino ice cream. Both were rich and delicious, ensuring that Chef Carlo has the entire menu covered and perfected from start to finish.
