If you’re an adrenaline junkie with the dream of speeding through the desert, flying up and down dunes … you’re in luck! Cairo West Magazine spoke to Omar Amin from Rally School Egypt to get the details behind this dusty, fun sport!
Rally School Egypt was founded in 2008 by racing gurus Azzam El Farouky & Abdelhamid Abu Yousef, along with the help of other enthusiasts. The group of motor heads decided to invest and grow the sport in Egypt by organizing the first local races to get rally car lovers prepped and ready for participation in international races like the Pharaons Rally. Amin says the idea behind establishing the school was to make the knowledge and data these professionals accumulated through years of experience accessible to budding Egyptian racers interested in beginning their rally racing careers.
The course takes places over 2 months, comprising of theoretical classes in the evening and practical training on the weekends. There are eight modules, including topics like Car Off-roading 101, Co-piloting and Navigation, Race and Piloting, and Team Management and Assistance.
According to Amin, over 80% of the current rally racers in Egypt are Rally School Egypt graduates. There are no specific requirements needed to enroll and go through the course, but in order to join the rally scene in any capacity, it is preferable to have desert driving background and own a 4×4 vehicle. Graduates can establish their own racing team, buy or build a racing car, become a co-pilot, or perhaps join an existing racing team in a management capacity.
