El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) has announced slightly revised dates of its 4th edition, which is now scheduled to take place one month later than initially planned, and will run from October 23 to 31, 2020 in the Egyptian resort town of El Gouna.
One of the eagerly anticipated highlights of this year is that the festival will be the first public event hosted at the site of Gouna Conference and Culture Centre (GCCC), which features an architectural design of 8000-square-meter-wide open space, providing a unique and spacious atmosphere for a new cultural and cinematic experience.
Subject to the governmental regulations at the time, the festival is exploring possibilities of utilizing indoor and outdoor spaces as well as online activities, especially those that are related to CineGouna Platform, in order to offer a productive festival experience. GFF will, however, first and foremost, ensure the safety and comfort of its participants and audiences by putting in place all necessary measures recommended by the health authorities.
GFF is also planning to create pleasant outdoor screening venues and equip them with state-of-the-art sound and projection systems. The opening and closing ceremonies and other key networking events will take place in large outdoor spaces, and less than half of the total capacity of the indoor cinemas will be used to insure social distancing.
GFF is also working on enhancing its virtual capabilities so any guests who are not able to come to El Gouna will have the chance to participate in the festival online. Orascom Development Holding (ODH)—the mother company of GFF which has been associated with the festival since its inception—will play a bigger and more influential role in supporting and managing the event this year, under the auspices of El Gouna Founder, Engineer Samih Sawiris.
GFF will continue to receive support by Festival Founder, Engineer Naguib Sawiris. The core team has been working diligently, preparing for this much-awaited edition, under the leadership of Festival Director, Intishal Al Timimi; Co-founder and Chief Operations and Foreign Relations Officer, Bushra Rozza; Artistic Director, Amir Ramses; and with Co-founder Kamal Zadeh acting as the Financial Advisor.
For the 4th year in a row, the business and industry-oriented platform continues its mission to support regional projects through CineGouna SpringBoard, the project development and co-production lab which has received 99 submissions for its 2020 edition—65 projects in development and 34 films in post-production.
In line with El Gouna Film Festival’s (GFF) mission to showcase a wide variety of films that tell powerful stories from the region and the world, the 4th edition of GFF continues to program unique movies as well as newly discovered cinematic voices. The process of selection is still in progress, and at this stage, it includes a top-notch line-up of internationally acclaimed works.
