Neatly situated between the two towers of recently re-opened Sheraton Cairo Hotel, Bridge Cafe is just a few steps from the buzz of the reception area and lobby. An oasis of calm, it is perfect as a connection point, for a catch-up with friends, a snack, a sumptuous tea-for-two or even a work session on one of the several work stations. In a rush? Then opt for a Starbucks coffee and something from the tasty selection of items that can be bagged and ready to go in a flash. But why the hurry, we say? The tea on offer is from a range that connoisseurs prize the world over, the pastries and other treats deserve to be savored slowly and the ambience offers a soothing escape from the bustling city outside, so slow down and enjoy the moment at what could be considered on of the best restaurnats in Sheraton.

Type of cuisine: Whether you opt for food-to-go, or something to enjoy at one of the comfortable seating spots, you can choose from a variety of savory or sweet items. With, of course, the Starbucks coffee selection.

Signature dishes: Profiteroles Mille-Feuille, a blissful concoction created by combining two well-loved sweets. Ploughman’s Platter, an array of meats and cheeses with home baked bread. Anything from the bakery, the bread and pastries are superb. Beverages come with an individual selection of tiny home-baked cookies, a nice touch.

Dishes sampled and ingredients: Being thirsty rather than peckish we went for long, cool Piña Coladas. The best way to refresh yourself after a long day at the office, we say. Pineapple, coconut cream and a dash of rum, they went down easily. The drinks came with nibbles in the form of assorted mini-breadsticks, salted peanuts and a tangy dip. Just the right amount and flavor combination to complement our drinks.

Other menu options that appealed:  We have firm plans to return for a cup of the specialty tea, and one or two (at least) delectable pastries from their mouth-watering display.

Beverage options: Something for every taste and time of day. Great coffee, a connoisseurs’ range of teas, cocktails and mock-tails, smoothies, milkshakes, juices and beers. It’s all there.

Décor: Comfortable, contemporary without being too edgy. Warm gold, russet tones and rich wood. A little bit of ‘bling’ pays homage to the revival of 70s vibe that flows throughout the outlets.

Ambience: Cosmopolitan, lively but with enough privacy to enjoy conversations in peace. By 7 pm the lights are dimmed and live music sets the mood for the evening ahead. We enjoyed listening to excellent guitar on our visit. Thursday and Friday have a harpist to provide a soothing background.

Clientele mix: A mix of ages, nationalities and genders. Businessmen meeting up, groups of friends relaxing, people using the handy work-stations and grabbing a bite.

Price range: Upmarket, but still excellent value.

Opening hours: Currently from 6:30 am – 10:30 pm, but will extend to 24/7 in the near future.
