Use Tech to Track your Fitness Performance

How Smart technology can help you reach your goals

When you exert a lot of effort but are not sure how effective your fitness regimen is, it helps to know which fitness devices can give you that vital info you need to fine tune your routine. We asked Canadian fitness influencer and certified nutritionist Hussein Jaber for his tips on what tech innovations can help keep you informed and in form.

CWM: Hussein, what’s your top suggestion when it comes to fitness accessories?

HJ: I believe the smart watch has definitely made a huge impact on the fitness industry. It enables you to track and monitor your heart rate, you can track calories burned in every session, whether you are trying to lose weight or build muscle mass.

One important benefit is that you can analyze every single workout and see if your performance level is increasing or decreasing and how you can improve it. You can easily transfer all the data to your phone and store it. There are many good brands out there; you need to check to see which offers all the options you need.

What is coming up on the horizon in the fitness industry?

Something that is creating some excitement is a new addition to InBody machines. This is a laser that can specifically identify where excess fat is stored in your body, and help target it with a possible reduction of up to 50%. The InBody machine has already revolutionized our approach to fitness and health by making detailed information so much more accessible.

Made to Order: Ordera App the F&B Take-away Game-Changer

The busier our day becomes the more we welcome ideas that can streamline activities eating away at our leisure time. Hat’s off to Ordera. We chatted with Operations and Communication Manager Menna Bedawy to find out more.

What motivated you to launch Ordera?

We saw a huge gap in the F&B industry, the lack of technology in the take-away experience has always been a challenge that the customers have had to go through on a daily basis. We decided to fill the gap by introducing the first pickup/drive-thru application.

How many people do you have in your team?

We currently run the whole operation with 12 team members.

What is involved in the process of using the app?

We’ve invested an enormous amount of time perfecting the user experience, to make it very smooth and enjoyable. We use Google Maps to accurately estimate the time of arrival, based on when we start preparing your order, just to make sure that the order is fresh and hot upon your arrival. We’re also the first ordering app to integrate a built-in loyalty program, so the user can always get rewarded.

How successful has it been to date?

Very successful! We are one of the few startups that were positively impacted by COVID19. What used to be a nice-to-have, kind of a luxurious service, now became a necessity. We became very attractive to both the users and the venues.

What products do you deal with?

We are focusing on the entire F&B sector, ranging from coffee, breakfast, fast food, dessert and even convenience stores.

Which areas do you cover, and what are your plans for expansion?

We’re currently covering all of Cairo, and we’re launching in Alexandria this month. As for further expansion, we’re currently studying our regional expansion.

What advice would you give young people who want to launch a new business?

The customer always comes first, starting from acknowledging customers and validating their opinion, to caring and putting customer satisfaction, feedback and needs first no matter how fast you scale. Always put the customer as the most important factor in the equation.

Top 3 Local Getaways in Egypt to Visit This Fall

By: Aliaa Elsherbini

Sa7el season might be coming to an end but that doesn’t mean that summer weather is ending with it. The great thing about Egypt’s rich cities by the sea is that it’s summer all year round! Here are our three top local getaways for you to visit and explore this fall.

Basata Eco-Lodge Nuweiba

Let’s start with the most popular of them all, Basata Eco-Lodge in Nuweiba, Egypt’s first ecolodge. It is one of those places that does not lose its charm with time, it evolves and innovates with each successive year. Basata is nestled between majestic Sinai mountains and a Red Sea sandy beach, it is also around 20 to 30 kilometers away from coral reefs, so snorkeling is on the menu.

We spoke with Dr. Sherif El Ghamrawy, founder of Basata Ecolodge, to learn the secret behind 34 years of making a positive impact on the surrounding society. Basata runs a NGO that plays a vital part in big projects like the triage of trash from all over Nuweiba.

The camp is a reflection of the social and environmental work the owners do, as the camp itself is eco-friendly with cultivating activities, trash triage, a relaxing ambiance with a no loud music policy, and communal kitchen and bathrooms.

Accommodation:

There are three types of accommodation:

– Camping Area
– Bamboo Huts by the beach
– Chalets

What they have in common is that they are all built using natural sustainable material that is 100% made in Egypt, built with an Egyptian inspired architecture making each accommodation unique; no two chalets are the same. There is a considerable amount of space between the huts and chalets to give guests more privacy.

Activities:

There are plenty of activities that you can participate in like snorkeling. Basata promotes freedom of expression by encouraging guests to create their own activities and make their own fun using the available materials and tools around the eco-lodge. Music instruments, games such as chess and tawla, and a library with all sorts of books, so you can pick your favorite pass time are all available.

Safari day-trips are available for booking, as well as private dinners for women with Bedouin ladies as a way to bring communities together and empower each other.

Food:

Usually, there is a communal kitchen where everyone staying at Basata is free to cook what they want and serve themselves what they wish from the pantry as long as they write down in a piece of paper daily the items used. It is a place built on trust.

However, due to the current situation the kitchen is temporarily closed for safety measures and the staff is serving the food. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all consisting of local and Egyptian dishes and traditional delicious food. That does not make it in any way restrictive as you can opt for a full eggs and falafel breakfast or granola with fruits and yogurt, the option is still there.

Worth mentioning:

Basata offers special prices for women traveling completely on their own to encourage female travelers to feel safe to take a solo vacation.

Matarma Bay

Located at just 20 km South of Ras Sudr—In between Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh—Matarma Bay is the perfect spot for adrenaline junkies, beach lovers, and people looking to relax, offering a bit of everything to accommodate everyone. However, one of its main attractions is watersports as the resort city sits along crystal clear turquoise waters and yellow sandy beaches.

Matarma Bay caters to all group sizes, family, and friends with 44 sea-view rooms and lovely outdoor areas, delicious cuisine, and a 10 minute-drive from all kitesurfing and activity centers in Ras Sudr.

Owner Ali Awadi tells us how he, as a kitesurfer, used to always have accommodation problems when visiting Ras Sudr as he and his friends would have great kiting sessions but then struggle to find a suitable place to stay. They would only find either small spaces, shared bathrooms, or unpleasant buildings. Mr Awadi was inspired to provide visitors of the area a nice and clean place to stay, and he built Matarma Bay starting with only 18 rooms and it went from there.

Activities:

Matarma Bay provides a wide range of activities, especially that its location is a hub for wind-driven water sports. Courses and lessons (all levels are welcome) for kayaking, stand-up paddling, windsurfing, kite-surfing, wakeboarding, and sailing are all on offer.

It is also a space for wellness retreats as many yoga and team-building sessions happen there as well as big events such as weddings.

Since it is very family-based, there are also play-areas and water sports lessons for children.

Food:

A restaurant serves international cuisine for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. There is also a beach bar serving refreshing drinks with a view.

If you are thinking of visiting Ras Sudr, then Matarma Bay is the place to stay. The best months to visit are September, October, November, April, May, and June; however, it is open all year long so just call to make a booking.

The G Experience: Live-aboard boat that covers islands around the Red Sea

This one is a little unusual as it is not an on-ground site like the previous two but a moving getaway in the sea under the name: The G Experience.

The G Experience is inspired by its owner, Hassan Gazarin’s multi-background in hospitality, water sports, and food and beverages all put in one place: on a boat that takes you around islands in Safaga.

Put in place during the wake of the pandemic when all places were closed including beaches and water sports centers, The G Experience provides all-inclusive trips for you and your family to enjoy the water in closed groups where you are safe, comfortable and happy.

A full experience:

Three types of trips are available to choose from:

-Kite-surfing safari
-Diving trip
-Pleasure and relaxing.

You have options, but what’s even better is that all trips are customizable to meet all of the guests and different groups’ needs. Meaning you can choose to have a Kite Surfing and relaxing trip where you only go Kiting for one day and the other two you swim and chill on deck, or vice versa. Gazarin and his team take care of everything during these trips as they provide the boat, the gear, the food, and the transportation from Cairo or Alex and airport pick-ups with a meet and greet.

Length of Stay:

The average stay length is 3 nights and 4 days to ensure a fulfilling trip, but it can be anywhere between a weekend and 10 days, all you have to do is ask and check for availability with the organizers.

Activities:

There are plenty of activities that Gazarin and his team work hard to provide. There are the main water sports like Kite-surfing and diving, led by professional instructors. You will first watch educational videos about the Red Sea and its inhabitants of fish and corals then watch live demonstrations of what you will need to do, then you will experience it yourself.

On a kiting trip, you will kite-surf, eat, sleep, and repeat. You will wake up to catch your first ride at sunrise as the bright yellow sun gains its force up in the sky between blue skies. Once the first session is done you will get to have breakfast and maybe a nap to fuel for your second kite-surfing course of the day and repeat until sunrise, it’s exhilarating.

Apart from that, there are yoga and Pilates sessions, board games, kayaking courses, fishing, and arts and crafts activities for the kids. There is something for everyone.

Island Hopping:

Each type of trip has its coordinated island-hopping itinerary, and they go as follows:

Kite-surfing: Bayout Island, Gaysoom, Abo Monaar, and Tawila Island.

Diving: Elephant Stone and Brothers.

Pleasure and relaxing: Abo Hashish, Abo Nahas, Gobel and Mahmeya.

Food:

The food of your whole stay is provided by the G experience with three full meals a day and then some. It is quality food with a quantity that accommodates your group.

Mark our word, this is going to be the trendiest thing. So book a trip and customized it.

Martial Arts for Kids with Captain Mahmoud Zakaria

Martial Arts for Kids

In today’s fast-paced life, parents are constantly facing the dilemma of choosing the right sport for their child that would both benefit them and get them off their IPad and video games. Being a kids’ martial arts instructor and a champion who walked this path by himself as a child, Captain Mahmoud Zakaria highlights the benefits.

Engaging children in martial arts for kids has numerous positive effects on both the physical and mental and emotional state of the child.

Physical Benefits

Martial Arts for KidsPhysically, children build core muscles and improve fitness levels. Needless to mention the change in the physical composition of the child, parents are interested to learn about all the underlying changes in the character.

Developmental Benefits

Martial arts build a child’s confidence and self-esteem as they become physically able to defend themselves in bullying situations. However, martial arts tackle the mental and emotional aspects by teaching the child to use a ‘not fighting’ approach whenever possible. The mind and body coordination creates a more tough character to face today’s challenges. As an instructor, I am highly aware of the importance of teaching confidence and hence children are constantly encouraged and praised.

Social Benefits

Children are also taught to deal with their peers in a controlled setting, learning about both self-respect and respecting others. As the child becomes physically able and socially interactive, they become ready to face all the different challenging environments of today’s world. A confident child is no longer a target for bullies. Children learn to deal with differences and accept and appreciate all their peers.

Today’s kids, tomorrow’s champs!

Martial Arts for KidsTypes of Martial arts to enroll your kid in

  1. Boxing: A form of martial arts that involves punches. It increases strength and improves endurance.
  2. Kickboxing: A form of martial arts that involves punches and kicks. It develops flexibility, coordination, focus and self-defense skills.
  3. Muay Thai: A form of martial arts that involves striking with kicks, knees, elbows and punches. It helps in gaining confidence, better fitness, coordination and speed and agility.

Children starting at the age of 4 are involved in a general martial arts class that involves being exposed to all the techniques of the three forms (kickboxing, boxing and Muay Thai). Between the ages of 8 and 10, children can start being specialized based on their strengths and/or certain interest.

Protecting Our Children Ahead of the School Year

The 2020 summer season was undoubtedly a unique one. Because of COVID-19, we experienced a summer that was mostly centered around social distancing, masks, and making sure we stay safe as we collectively fight this pandemic.

But as the summer passes and schools reopen, whether online or back in physical classes, Tabibi wanted to take a moment and use this issue to talk more about the things you can do to protect your child during the upcoming academic year.

The first and most important aspect of keeping your kids safe is to ensure they are provided with all their required vaccinations so that they could start the year well protected from all preventable diseases, such as the flu, HPV, tetanus, and meningitis. Please, refer to your doctor to ensure your child has taken all required vaccinations, or contact us at Tabibi to have all your child’s medical records saved.

Even though we do not yet have a vaccine for COVID-19, we do have vaccinations for different diseases like measles, chickenpox and, mumps. It is our duty as parents to make sure our kids are well vaccinated against these diseases, because the more we wait to get our kids vaccinated, the more we risk an outbreak of these diseases.

As always, Tabibi has your back by providing top-class doctors in all fields and the most reliable vaccination service available, so make sure you reach out to us through or hotline 16724 or website www.tabibi247.com to book an appointment for your child’s vaccination.

Ahmed Hatem is a Time Traveler in his New Film El Ghassala

Ahmed Hatem

By: Mariam Elhamy

When talking about El Ghassala (The Washing Machine), Ahmed Hatem spared no details about the cast, the genre and why he expected this movie to be a great success with a certain audience. In an exclusive interview with the star, we find out all the details behind this new film.

What was it like playing a character in a sci-fi film for the first time?

When I first got introduced to this character and this movie I was told to think of it as if it were real. So even the jokes came from a real sense, my character Omar totally believed in el ghassala and that everything he’s doing will fix his relationship with his love.

Since a young age, he was determined to win her over and that’s what he did. Omar is completely clueless; he was so keen on succeeding and winning the girl that he was oblivious to everything that was changing around him.

Ahmed Hatem

How did you put your personal touch to the role?

This role has nothing to do with me as a person or any role I’ve ever done before. The character’s behavior, the way he talks, moves and thinks is completely different than who I am. I chose this role for that reason, so that I could try something completely new and different than anything that is familiar. Omar doesn’t look or act like anyone at all.

Is sci-fi a genre you would like to continue exploring?

Of course. It’s the only genre that no matter how much time passes never gets repetitive. The problem with genres like romance, action or thrillers is that their ideas keep repeating themselves.

When you do a sci-fi film, you drift off into something that is completely imaginary and doesn’t exist. No other movie has the same idea of a man who invents a time machine that looks like a washing machine to travel and meet his younger self.

Did you expect the movie’s success?

I had a feeling that people would like it and we had a specific and large target audience, mainly children, who we believed would love this movie. Thankfully, kids loved it mainly because it’s a bit cartoonized in its characters and colors.

What are some memorable moments from being on set?

There were funny moments with the whole cast, Hannah for example is hilarious, she always makes me laugh. My relationship with Mahmoud Hemeida is completely surreal. As for Fathy, Sallam and Taher, this was the first time that I had worked with them and I feel like I’ve made new discoveries getting to know them, especially outside filming.

They have a wide scope of talent, they always offer something completely new that they haven’t done before. I loved working with them and I hope we get to work together again because they are some of the best people to work with in comedy and other genres.

El Gouna Film Festival – 4th Edition

El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) has announced slightly revised dates of its 4th edition, which is now scheduled to take place one month later than initially planned, and will run from October 23 to 31, 2020 in the Egyptian resort town of El Gouna.

One of the eagerly anticipated highlights of this year is that the festival will be the first public event hosted at the site of Gouna Conference and Culture Centre (GCCC), which features an architectural design of 8000-square-meter-wide open space, providing a unique and spacious atmosphere for a new cultural and cinematic experience.

Subject to the governmental regulations at the time, the festival is exploring possibilities of utilizing indoor and outdoor spaces as well as online activities, especially those that are related to CineGouna Platform, in order to offer a productive festival experience. GFF will, however, first and foremost, ensure the safety and comfort of its participants and audiences by putting in place all necessary measures recommended by the health authorities.

GFF is also planning to create pleasant outdoor screening venues and equip them with state-of-the-art sound and projection systems. The opening and closing ceremonies and other key networking events will take place in large outdoor spaces, and less than half of the total capacity of the indoor cinemas will be used to insure social distancing.

GFF is also working on enhancing its virtual capabilities so any guests who are not able to come to El Gouna will have the chance to participate in the festival online. Orascom Development Holding (ODH)—the mother company of GFF which has been associated with the festival since its inception—will play a bigger and more influential role in supporting and managing the event this year, under the auspices of El Gouna Founder, Engineer Samih Sawiris.

GFF will continue to receive support by Festival Founder, Engineer Naguib Sawiris. The core team has been working diligently, preparing for this much-awaited edition, under the leadership of Festival Director, Intishal Al Timimi; Co-founder and Chief Operations and Foreign Relations Officer, Bushra Rozza; Artistic Director, Amir Ramses; and with Co-founder Kamal Zadeh acting as the Financial Advisor.

For the 4th year in a row, the business and industry-oriented platform continues its mission to support regional projects through CineGouna SpringBoard, the project development and co-production lab which has received 99 submissions for its 2020 edition—65 projects in development and 34 films in post-production.

In line with El Gouna Film Festival’s (GFF) mission to showcase a wide variety of films that tell powerful stories from the region and the world, the 4th edition of GFF continues to program unique movies as well as newly discovered cinematic voices. The process of selection is still in progress, and at this stage, it includes a top-notch line-up of internationally acclaimed works.
