A newly published study, done by Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences Center, suggests that consuming nuts on a regular basis strengthens brainwave frequencies that are related to cognition, memory, healing and other key brain functions.

Researchers found that nuts benefit the brain by enhancing cognition, memory, and the ability to rest. Not only do these delicious treats contain healthy fats, but they are also rich in fiber, plant-based proteins, phytochemicals, vitamins & minerals.

For those who have moody personalities around us, it has been proven that nuts provide tryptophan (essential amino acid) responsible for producing serotonin – a mood-boosting hormone and neurotransmitter (body’s chemical messenger).

Soak some raw nuts in warm slightly salted water before consumption (approx. 1-3 hours based on its hardness level).

Watermelon Bruschetta 

This sweet-and-savory Watermelon Bruschetta will make bring the party to everyone’s tastebuds! Perfect for summer. watermelon recipes

Ingredients:

  • 2 & 1/2 cups of fresh seedless watermelon, chopped
  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 cup feta cheese crumbles
  • 1/4 cup ricotta cheese
  • 3 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives, chopped
  • 1 baguette (or preferred bread) cut into slices
  • Black pepper

Method:

  1. Toast the baguette slices on a baking sheet for a few minutes, until slightly crispy.
  2. In a saucepan, mix the balsamic vinegar and honey and heat over medium-high. Stir regularly and let the mixture reach a simmer, and then reduce heat slightly to keep at a simmering point. Stir occasionally and remove from heat once the mixture has reduced by half and has thickened, about 15 to 20 mins.
  3. Combine the feta and ricotta in a food processor and process until smooth.
  4. Spread the whipped feta on the toasted bread and top with the finely chopped watermelon. Sprinkle with black pepper, basil, and chives.
  5. Drizzle the reduced balsamic over the bruschetta and serve.

Watermelon Cucumber and Quinoa Salad

We can all agree that quinoa is not always the best of friends with many ingredients but this watermelon-quinoa salad just works so well you’ll be making it every week.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cucumber diced, skin on
  • 2 cups cubed watermelon
  • 1/2 cup dry quinoa
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

Basil and Mint Vinaigrette:

  • 1/4 cup finely sliced fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup finely sliced fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp raw honey
  • 1/2 lemon juiced
  • pinch of salt and black pepper

Method:

  1. In a medium saucepan, add in dry quinoa and water on medium-high heat, stir and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer covered for 12-15 min until cooked. Fluff with a fork and set aside to cool. watermelon recipes
  2. In a large salad bowl, add in all ingredients and gently toss.
  3. In a glass jar add in all vinaigrette ingredients and shake well until emulsified together then mix with salad.
Watermelon Salad With Basil Ginger Dressing

A real healthy option that will not ruin your diet but is still scrummy with its crunchy and sweet flavors.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium watermelon, cubed
  • 1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • Pinch fine sea salt
  • 1/3 cup slivered almonds, toasted
  • 1/3 cup feta cheese
  • 1/4 small red onion, finely sliced
  • 12 tbsp fresh mint, chopped

For Dressing:

  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, not packed
  • 1/2 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp water

Method:

  1. In a bowl, place watermelon and drizzle olive oil and sea salt. Then add sliced onion, feta, almonds, and mint leaves.
  2. In a blender, blend dressing ingredients until smooth and drizzle over salad.

Watermelon Frosty

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups frozen watermelon cubes
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • juice of 1/2 a lime

Method:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until incorporated but still thick.
  2. Pour into glass and garnish with more mint and lime.

We have been known to forgo a main course in favor of a risotto, and the Mushroom Risotto with Arborio rice, forestière mushrooms, and Portobello Shimaji mushrooms, drizzled with olive oil and topped with freshly grated Parmesan cheese ticks just the right boxes for us.

The carnivores amongst us would no doubt jump at the chance of getting their teeth into Veal Brisket Tacos. Slow-cooked veal brisket mixed with homemade barbeque sauce in freshly baked tortilla bread topped with cheddar cheese and served with guacamole would be a palate pleaser, for sure. Sax

The main courses offer a nice balance between poultry, prime beef of various cuts with a choice of garnishes and sauces, and fresh seafood. The grilled fresh seabass with ratatouille lentils, glazed fennel and a Grenobloise sauce would be a light yet flavor-packed option, as would the grilled Cajun chicken skewers, glazed potato wedges and roasted mushrooms served with harissa and olive tapenade.

With barely any room for dessert, we still might not be able to pass up on one of the mouthwatering chocolate creations. Willpower is not our strong suit.

Amr, can you tell us what Remove is all about?

Remove is an all fitness levels program. One of its main key features is that it includes customized meal plans which work on helping participants reach their target goal, be it weight loss, improved shape and tone, and overall better fitness.Amr Reda

Is Remove suitable for everyone, in all age groups?

Naturally, any serious health condition should definitely be taken into consideration. As professional coaches, we tend to ask a series of questions before anyone joins the program, including health questions to learn if those interested suffer from any medical conditions, or if they are on medication, etc. In some cases, I ask the participants and athletes if their doctor allows them to train. How long does it usually take to see results?

Targets differ from one person to the other. For me it’s always about the discipline and consistency put in by the individual. For example, if a coach tells a person, “I’ll make you lose x number of kilos in a specific time frame”, I believe that is unprofessional.

But as a general answer, people tend to see changes in a month, and with 3-6 months of hard work we are talking about a massive transformation.

Do you tailor the program for each person?

Although the program is not an individualized program, there is a strategy behind the training. For example, someone may be overweight and someone else may just need to tone their body. Both reach their goal through the same program. That’s what I call the secret recipe of Remove. Amr Reda

Amr RedaHow do you select the dietary elements in the program?

There is a questionnaire that gets sent to the participants to understand more about their body type and food preferences, also if one has food allergies. Accordingly, I work on the meals. Different types of meal plans would include a low carb diet, a vegetarian diet, a pescatarian diet, a high protein diet or a carb cycling diet for example.

For the average person, I would say three meals and two snacks per day. But again, I play on the calorie count, because weight loss is about calories in vs. calories out. I normally require a BMI to be sent by the person so I can properly calculate their caloric intake and also monitor their progress. 

What about physical training?

We focus on strength training and HIIT. Sessions can be carried out in our physical location or via our online platform using Zoom. Amr Reda

What You Will Find

By then it would be time for another round of cocktails, then down to the serious business of carb-fueled indulgence. Who doesn’t love their potatoes? So, it would be a toss-up between French fries with truffle mushroom sauce and grated Parmesan, or Patatas Bravas, that inspired dish of roasted potatoes, spicy sauce, aioli and paprika, liberally sprinkled with grated Parmesan. Saving the inviting range of salads and raw specialties for a next visit, with ceviche and tiradito already on our shortlist, we would share a dessert or two, along with a round of Espresso Martinis to nurse as we sank into the mellow evening vibe. Chiringuito
