15 Things You Don’t Know You’re Saying That Make Women Feel Less

August 24, 2021
Women's Equality Day

For Women’s Equality Day we thought we would discuss a very important topic not only worldwide but especially here in Egypt.

There are so many things that might make women feel less; less strong, less intelligent or less important but we’ve tried to narrow them down to these 15 things that people say that not only really annoy women but also make them think less of themselves.

By Mariam Elhamy

1. “Del Ragel Wala Del Heeta” Women’s Equality Day

Why do you assume that a woman is always co-dependent? I think we’ve proved plenty that we can work, provide and raise children without the help of a man.

2. “Your Biological Clock is Ticking”

Most women are all too aware of their age, so you don’t need to remind them that if they don’t find a spouse they can never have kids. It’s none of your business anyway no matter how close you are. A woman is free to decide if and when she wants to conceive.

3. “Good Girls Don’t Curse, Smoke, or Be Loud”

Women's Equality DayAs opposed to men, obviously. Why is it acceptable for men to act whichever way they like when both genders should have good manners? Women’s Equality Day

4. “You Must Have It So Easy Because You’re Pretty”

This might sound like a compliment but it’s really an insult in disguise. Assuming that a girl can only make something of herself if or because she’s pretty.

5. “Here, Let Me Put It Into Simpler Words”

Mansplaining is when men oversimplify or explain something to women in a patronizing, condescending and overconfident way.

6. “Don’t Be Such a Girl”

Or “you hit like a girl” or “you throw like a girl” we’ve been hearing these since kindergarten and it portrays girls as weak oversensitive creatures.

7. “Of Course She’s A Bad Driver, She’s A Woman.”

Presuming that all women are the same.

8. “I’ll Always Beat You At Any Sport.”

A guy would be totally out of shape but still has the arrogance to assume that he can win a woman at any sport because she is physically weaker. Women’s Equality Day

9. “You’re Not That Kind of Girl.” Women’s Equality Day

Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t know that there were “kinds” of girls. I’ll try to find my kind and stick to it now. Thank you!

10. “You’re Acting Up. Are You On Your Period?”

This is probably the most annoying of all. When men act as if all women are crazy and hysterical because of their hormones. Acting like they know better when they smartly say “are you on your period”, it’s just a rude way of saying that you’re acting irrationally or overly emotional.

Women's Equality DayThese men attribute women’s anger to their raging hormones instead of being mature enough to validate their emotions. Take what a woman says or feels at face value instead of assuming it’s the hormones talking.

11. “You Have It So Easy. You Don’t Have To Bring Food On The Table.”

Even if a woman decides to be a stay-at-home mom that doesn’t mean that her life is any easier. Assuming that girls have no worries or pressures because they don’t have a financial responsibility is a deadbeat stereotype.

12. “You Don’t Need to Go to the Gym, You’re Already Hot.”

Not everything a woman does stems from wanting to be attractive for a guy. This apparent “compliment” is wrong on so many levels. Most women go to the gym because they want to be healthy, or because they enjoy exercising just like men do.

13. “I Love a Girl With a Hearty Appetite”

Women's Equality DayFirst off that only means that you’re either not used to seeing a woman eat or it’s another way of saying “you’re eating too much”. Second, would you ever say that to an overweight girl? Most women are self-conscious of their weight and they work really hard to maintain it so just don’t be rude.

14. “How Are You Still Single?”

Why is it that a woman can only be single because she’s unattractive? Are beautiful/smart/amazing women not allowed to be single? Are they only single because no man wants them or can it be that they are picky? Because they can afford to be single and because they have a choice. Women’s Equality Day

15. “That Girl is Hot!”

It’s never okay when a man says that another woman is attractive in front of his partner. Because no matter how cool a woman acts about it, it always triggers her self-doubt and insecurity.

Women's Equality Day

If you’ve said any of these things before to a woman, think of how it affects her and how it makes her feel. Does it change her perception of herself and her place in the world?

You might not even know you’re doing it but it’s not just about what you say, it’s also about how you react to what she says. Always make a woman feel secure and validated by acknowledging and valuing her efforts and celebrating her successes.

How It Feels When You’re In A Toxic Relationship

August 22, 2021
Toxic Relationship

We’ve recently done an explanation of what you should look out for, what to expect and what exactly is a toxic relationship, but this time we’re digging a bit deeper into how you actually feel when you’re in a toxic relationship that you feel trapped in and can’t fix.

By Mariam Elhamy

The relationship doesn’t bring you joy anymore.

Misery and overthinking have become second nature to you. You feel so confused and flustered a lot of the time as to what you mean to them or if you’re ever enough.

You feel emotionally manipulated.

Toxic RelationshipWhenever you try to talk to them about something that upsets you they make you feel guilty.

You often feel a huge distance between you.

As if you’re worlds apart even when you’re sitting right next to them.

You sometimes regret the day you met them.

You wish that they were never a part of your life because of all the pain they bring you. You imagine how your life would have been if they weren’t there.Toxic Relationship

You lost your peace of mind.

Toxic RelationshipYou try to avoid confrontations about many subjects just to keep the peace and stay away from any drama.

You can’t see a clear future with them in it.

Whenever you try to think of a future with them, it’s hazy and you can never talk to them about it because it will complicate things.

You can’t even blame them.

Toxic Relationship

They keep doing the same things you always tell them not to do but you can’t stay mad at them for too long so you always go back to them thinking that someday they’ll change or you’ll stop caring. Toxic Relationship

You feel like you can’t trust them completely.

Because one way or another you know they are going to let you down again eventually.

You feel emotionally drained most of the time.

You’re never unsure of the relationship and where you stand. The uncertainty keeps you doubting and questioning how you should feel instead of feeling safe and secure with them.

You don’t feel heard.

Toxic RelationshipYour concerns are never important even when you try to voice them, they never try to change or admit it when they make mistakes. Toxic Relationship

MINDFULNESS: The Art Of Deliberate Living

August 19, 2021

Mindfulness! This word seems to follow us everywhere lately, doesn’t it? Firstly, let us dig into the very meaning of its essence.

By Olesia Dovzhenko

Mindfulness – is the science and art of managing one’s awareness. This is an effective method of developing conscious skills for managing attention and shaping attitudes to overcome stress and form vitality.

Simply put: mindfulness is the exercise for your brain that builds your actions and reactions to anything life throws at you!Mindfulness

Nowadays, this science is widely practiced by psychologists, therapists, trainers, teachers, leaders, and highly popular individuals in order to effectively manage stressful situations by keeping balance and harmony with themselves and the world around them.

When is it a good idea to study and apply mindfulness practice?
  • If you are tired of endless streams of information, intrusive advertising or digital brainwashing
  • If you notice yourself living only in the past /future and you wish to cultivate a focus on the present moment; to finally live “here and now”
  • If you developed any psychosomatic disorders/disease by being in a constant state of overthinking, negativity and stress
  • If you wish to change your attitudes, thoughts and behaviors

Re-assess Your Values to Live a More Aligned Life

Do any of these points sound like you?

The upcoming are suggestions in the form of steps to help you start practicing mindfulness. Now, read through these steps, identify which actions fit you most right now and start putting them into practice.

Always know that it takes a great amount of time and patience to start mastering these described actions. Remember, you are re-framing your conscious! Excitement, desire and discipline can boost your productivity in this subject Big Time!

Wake Up With a Purpose.

Set an intention you’re most aligned with right now. Only good vibrational feelings should be present during this exercise. The best ways: repeated mantra, meditation, notebook writing, prayer and visualization.

Savor Each Moment.

Most of the time, we catch ourselves being on autopilot whilst managing our daily routine. Instead, try to develop a “being here and now” attitude. As an example, enjoy every mouthful – let your mind go through the plate, the cutlery, the flavors that trigger your senses.

Feel each bite, each sound, each tasting palette it has to offer.

Create New Patterns.

MindfulnessRewire your brain, if you feel attached to certain habitudes. Discover new places, meet new people, taste new food, take the lessons you’ve always wanted, be it singing, dancing, cooking – the whole world is there for you! Create new ways, new experiences, new regimes to follow, eliminating bad habits. Step by step.

Living with Mindfulness

Activate Your Muscles.

Physical exercise can boost and refresh your mind. Find your favorite type of sport and commit to it!

Observe Your Thoughts.

If you catch yourself on thoughts that are giving you bad inner feelings, make a deliberate effort to switch your attention to something pleasant. Observe your thoughts with no further judgment and take responsibility to choose what to think and hence how to feel.

Notice Your Sensations.

Allow your feelings and sensations to come and go, release the judgment and gift acceptance to anything you feel.

Notice Your Breathing.

Olivia Rodrigo: How an 18-Year-Old Became A Bright Pop Star

August 17, 2021

After the debut and the huge success of the single “Driver’s License” that dropped back in January, who knew that Olivia Rodrigo would come back with an even more powerful album?

By Karen Emad

“Sour”, Rodrigo’s first album, broke the global Spotify record for the biggest opening week for an album by a female artist. The album portrays a wave of complicated feelings such as heartache and being deeply in love.

What things other than love and a broken heart could “Gen Z” relate to? The answer would probably be nothing. Olivia Rodrigo

How It All Started

The young singer and actress has always shown her passion for music through competing and winning talent shows with her fierce performances ever since she was only four years old.

In recent interviews, she revealed that her musical inspirations are Lorde and Taylor Swift and how she would love to make music with them since she grew up listening to their music.

Before her music career started, Rodrigo had already stolen people’s hearts in the Disney Channel show “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”, which was on screens in 2019. She played the role of “Nini Salzar”.

It was after signing with Interscope and Geffen Records in 2020 that fans awaited her music especially after the singer posted videos of her playing the piano and singing during quarantine.

Why Teenagers Relate to Her Songs

“Driver’s license” is definitely the songwriter’s big break and as she stated that it “has made her life shift in an instant”. Three songs, all of which charted in the top three of the US Billboard Hot 100, preceded “Sour”.

The first single “Driver’s License” topped the charts for nine weeks straight. Following that was “Déjà vu” which became a hit on Tiktok and stole the third spot on the Billboard 100. Finally, the last single before the drop of the album, “Good 4 u” which has a significant rock vibe to it, took second place on the Billboard 100.

Rodrigo conveyed the rollercoaster of “sour” feelings that teenagers tend to go through with those eleven songs which is what inspired the title of her first album. Both boys and girls have been sharing how they can relate to her incredible lyricism and how the entire album illustrates all their mixed emotions perfectly.

Moreover, after all the success “Sour” has witnessed, the world was yet stunned by the 18-year-old’s breathtaking and emotional performances at the Brit Awards and on Jimmy Fallon as well, where she performed her hit singles.

It has only been two months since the album’s release nonetheless everyone is now impatiently waiting for new music. We can’t wait to see what the young star still has to offer and until then we will be streaming “Sour” on repeat.
