The centuries-old market of “Wekalet El Balah” is located in the neighborhood of “Boulak Abu Al Ela” is rich in history and surely represents Cairo’s cultural heritage.
Believing in the value of such iconic place, a group of Mass Communication students at MIU has decided to highlight the historic significance of this market through their graduation project under the name “Kenz El Wekala”.
This area was known during the Mamluk era for its upscale palaces, and witnessed different stages varying from being a center for cotton trade, to trading of dates, hence the name.
Wekalet El Balah currently has 3 commercial sections for fabrics, clothes, and auto spare parts. Moreover, there are still some historic landmarks that distinguish this area such as Sinan Pasha Mosque, Sultan Abo El-Ela Mosque, and Al Rakaieb Museum.
