Kenz El Wekala – The Story of Wekalet El-Balah

⁣⁣⁣The centuries-old market of “Wekalet El Balah” is located in the neighborhood of “Boulak Abu Al Ela” is rich in history and surely represents Cairo’s cultural heritage.⁣⁣

Believing in the value of such iconic place, a group of Mass Communication students at MIU has decided to highlight the historic significance of this market through their graduation project under the name “Kenz El Wekala”.

⁣⁣
This area was known during the Mamluk era for its upscale palaces, and witnessed different stages varying from being a center for cotton trade, to trading of dates, hence the name.⁣⁣

Wekalet El Balah currently has 3 commercial sections for fabrics, clothes, and auto spare parts. Moreover, there are still some historic landmarks that distinguish this area such as Sinan Pasha Mosque, Sultan Abo El-Ela Mosque, and Al Rakaieb Museum.
