Seafood at its best, a true harvest from the sea. Everything we tried at Salamanka was excellent, but in keeping with the restaurant’s authenticity, the day’s catch is laid out on a huge bed of ice, allowing you to select what you fancy. Go with that!

Dishes Sampled

The first job was to select our fish, so we could enjoy a range of mezze while they were grilling. It all looked amazingly fresh, but we went for bouri and sea bream, along with a platter of the hugest shrimp imaginable. We soon made short work of our basket of assorted bread; dunking into taramasalata, tahina and babaghanoush with abandon. We were also in need of something to warm us up after the chilly evening air we had just escaped, and the Seafood Soup did the trick. The rich broth had depth of flavor and was packed with shrimp, calamari and fish, making it almost a meal in itself.

When the stars of the show arrived we were ready though. The shrimp came sizzling hot and when the foil was drawn back, the aroma they released was pure heaven. The seasoning and light addition of onion complemented the flavor, allowing the natural taste and freshness to shine. The fish came whole, but the expert de-boning and serving by the manager saved us the tricky task of doing this ourselves. Both fish were excellent, and worked well with the fresh salad and Sayadeya rice that accompanied them.

With just a tiny space left for dessert, we shared bowls of mahalabeya, rice pudding and bright crimson jelly. So traditional, and sooo good!

Other Menu Options that Appealed

We would happily do the same again, but agreed that the appetizers, tajin and pasta dishes also looked inviting.

Beverage Options

Fresh juices and soft drinks, as well as hot beverages. The Lemon with Mint we tried was excellent.

Décor & Ambience

The traditional blue and white palette of Salamanka is offset with splashes of pale grey and tan, keeping the seaside feel, but adding a contemporary twist. There is a mix of indoor and outdoor seating and the atmosphere is convivial, with attentive service. There are two large flat screens strategically placed for anyone wanting to catch the match of the day, but they do not impose on the atmosphere.

Clientele mix: All ages, families, couples and groups of friends.

Price range:  Moderate, but it depends on your selection of course.

Worth knowing: Salamanka offers delivery to the neighboring area, as well as takeaway.
