As much as you might miss the gym, now is not the time to be in close proximity with others in close spaces. Now is the time to focus on keeping active in the outdoors, in the fresh air under Egypt’s clear skies. Luckily there are many options to choose from to keep you moving this summer, all while keeping the required 6 ft. distance. Here are the best outdoor sports and activities for you. [Full contact information at the end of this article].
Walking is a great way to keep your body active without breaking a sweat and it can be done almost anywhere like in residential compounds or around your neighborhood. Create a playlist and get up on your feet.
The perfect solo sport during these times is cycling (bike riding) since you only need a bike and a paved road to practice it. You can follow your own trajectory or participate in one of the many pre-planned rides with any of the groups and organizations below:
Cairo Cycling Geckos Cycling is an organization with a cause. The aim is to empower women through planned rides that also entail charity work such as delivering food in underprivileged areas.
StarBike organizes cycling rides for anyone interested in riding.
Go Bike organizes bike rides and is also an online community that encourages cycling alone during the current circumstances. The initiative shares the milestones of cyclers on its’ social media pages.
Yoga is the perfect combination to stimulate your mind and body, and it can be done indoors as well as outdoors through online guided classes and private lessons, fitting for an outdoor social distancing activity. Here are some studios that will help get you into the discipline:
One.O.Eight Yoga Studio, located in New Cairo, offers a variety of yoga classes—including air yoga—as well as online guided meditations on its’ Facebook page to follow at home.
Mudra Yoga Studio is a center in Zamalek that reinvented itself to an online yoga platform offering an extensive yoga program that includes Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga, Yin Yoga, core and deep stretch exercises.
Osana Family Wellness provides a full yoga experience with outdoor and indoor spaces, as well as online classes and workshops for a better mind and body. It also has a Wholefood café that delivers to your doorsteps.
Yalla Yoga is a social center providing yoga classes and retreats as well as teacher training for those who want to become professionals of the field.
Reform Pilates Studios, in 6th of October, provides one on one private Pilates and toning classes as well as group classes (they currently have online programs to keep us social distancing).
Nūn Center is where to go for your general wellbeing. It offers a variety of health related and personal growth classes, which include yoga, flexibility and distance healing. Tune in your mind and soul with their virtual sessions and online classes, and soon physical classes.
Another solo sport to practice is horseback riding since you do not need to be in close proximity with anyone else except your horse. Here are places that can help you practice it:
Pegasus Equestrian Center is located on a 30,000 sq. meter property giving you the needed space for you and your chosen horse to run free in a luxurious track.
Oxers Equestrian is the horse riding school for everyone. It accepts all levels and ages as it teaches you the activity from its basis making it the place to go with your family for a collective activity.
Knights Ethics Academy offers lessons for both beginners and junior riders, training them to reaching their true horsemanship potential in show jumping and dressage.
F.B. Stables is for you to ride freely alone or with your friends with a majestic view of the Pyramids and into the western desert.
Tennis is the perfect social distancing sport since you are separated by more than 6 feet from your opponent. You can play this sport in any sporting club that is still operating, or better yet, in a compound that offers tennis courts. Professional tennis schools include Advantage Tennis Academy in New Giza, and Eagles Tennis Academy.
Another sport you can get into in the outdoors is Golf. You can practice this sport in several residential compounds such as Allegria, Dreamland and Palm Hills, and sporting clubs or in some hotels like Mirage City and Katameya Dunes.
Choose the form of activity that suits you best and get moving.
