We had a sit-down with rising star Noubi aka Nubia whose popularity has grown rapidly in a very short period. Noubi’s DJing journey began seven years ago when a friend gave him a four-channel controller and taught him how to use it. His first gig at The Tap, Maadi, which also happened to fall on his birthday, became Noubi’s most memorable performance for him. Inspired by many on the local and international scene, Noubi perhaps looks up to Black Coffee the most for his skillful ability to mix tracks live so seamlessly using only his right hand.

What makes a good/booming night for a DJ?

Reading the crowd is the key. I guess it’s about how you take them to your journey while they’re enjoying a smooth ride.

If you could eternally be stuck in one year’s music scene, which year would it be?

2004’s Trance music scene was lit!

What is one subgenre you think doesn’t get the attention it deserves?

Uplifting Trance is so underrated nowadays, people who listen to trance are a bit more into progressive and psytrance.

What is it that you love about the scene?

The scene is getting bigger each year, the diversity exists and that’s what I like the most. DJs are expressing themselves more through their music and not just playing for the spotlight.

What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?

I believe Armin van Buuren’s ‘Mirage’ is timeless. Rampa’s ‘Muye’ as well!

What festivals would you most like to play?

I’d love to play at ADE, Ultra Music Festival, and EDC.

What was your favorite night at The Tap so far?

A night at The Tap West playing alongside DJunkie, AK and Alsharif was a great experience!

Who’s your favorite band/DJ)? And which artist from the scene would you like to share the decks with?

My favorite DJ is a big name in the trance music scene, his name is Giuseppe Ottaviani.

I’d love to share the decks with Tourkey & Selim, Aladdin, and Yo-lan-Da. Playing B2B with my best friends is something I’m looking forward to.
