American Buffalo originally opened on Broadway in 1977, and last month it was reconceived by newly formed professional theatre company Theatre X at The Gerhart Theatre, AUC New Cairo.
The crew of American Buffalo involved 13 AUC students and alumni, and the cast was made up of two graduates from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Waleed Hammad (Teach) and Jason Will (Don); who is a visiting instructor at the Department of Arts, as well as one current AUC theatre student, Pola Kamel (Bob). A theatre director from the United States helped remotely in the production of the play.
Cairo West Magazine covered this play, which was performed on an open exposed stage, fully displaying the talents of the cast. On the technical side, lighting, costumes and stage sets showcased the talents of the crew members, rendering this production a true success.
