First Time in Egypt Design, Photography, and Graffiti Are United Under One Innovative Activation
A Photography Exhibition by Alchemy at O West’s First One Story Villa
O West, the fully integrated town by Orascom Development Egypt, situated in the heart of 6th of October, in collaboration with Art D’Egypte hosted the first-of-its-kind exhibition “When Art Meets Design”. The exhibition brought together an amalgamation of exceptional Egyptian designers, who brought O West alive by creating huge sized installations and interactive artworks.
The idea of the activation in and of itself is uncommon. Art D’Egypte, in their innovative curation, marries completely different elements, different artists, and different genres under the same exhibition. This exhibition marries different elements harmoniously, where designers, artists, photographers, factories and developers collaborated across 3 main categories; Installations and Functional Art, Photography, and Graffiti, to create 9 unique art pieces for O West highlighting the importance of originality and nonconformity of O West.
The exhibition featured a distinctive photography exhibition by Alchemy Photography that was held in O West’s one story villa. This is in addition to a panel discussion by Dr. Fikry Hassan, Director of Cultural Heritage Management at the French University in Cairo with Egypt’s renowned designers to discuss their unique installations and share knowledge, expertise, and philosophy, besides a graffiti workshop to engage families and kids.
“Our collaboration with Art D’Egypte comes in line with Orascom Development’s belief in the power of arts in enhancing the well-being of individuals and society, as well as reflecting our strategy to empower all types of art and design. We are thrilled with this collaboration, which gives the chance for O West to be the very first town in Cairo to host such an unconventional art and design exhibition,” stated Tarek Kamel, CEO of O West.
“O West is distinctly designed to offer a true wholesome town experience, bringing over 30 years of expertise in building towns. The residential town will bring the exceptional experience of living in all aspects; art & culture, sports, education and health.” added Kamel.
Nadine Abdel Ghaffar, the Founder of Art D’Egypte said: “This first-of-its-kind exhibition will bring together a group of the best photographers, artists, and designers who will collaborate to create unique interactive artworks and large-scale installations in harmony with the nature of O West. This comes from our core belief that art plays an important role in enriching culture.”
The designers who manufactured the installations are equally as innovative as the concept, each brought his own history, flair and culture into his works, and they all complement each other. These artists and designers are: Ahmed Helmi, Amir Dous, Ehab Mokhtar, Hala Saleh, Hisham Mahdi, Karim Mekhtigian, Maged Mikhael, Malak Yacout, Mohamed Fares, Sarah Sarofim, Mohamed Salah and Sarah Shannon, along with the factories and interior design companies; Meuble El Chark, Veradeco, and The Cult.
