GROHE Supports Partnership Between LIXIL and UNICEF

GROHE

GROHE is thrilled to be announcing the partnership between LIXIL and UNICEF that raises awareness on the importance of improving access to sanitation and hygiene to underprivileged communities through their very own “Make A Splash!” campaign.

  • Today, one in four people still live without access to a basic toilet; two in five do not have basic handwashing services at home
  • The “Make a Splash!” partnership between LIXIL and UNICEF is tackling this global sanitation and hygiene crisis
  • As part of LIXIL’s brand portfolio, GROHE supports the “Make a Splash!” partnership with a dedicated campaign in North Africa

Going to the toilet, washing our hands – these are daily routines that we don’t think much about. For most of us, sanitary facilities with clean water are a matter of course, but many across the globe are facing a different situation: Two billion people lack basic sanitation, 673 million practice open defecation regularly and 40% of the world’s population do not have access to handwashing facilities and soap at home.

As a result of unhygienic water and sanitation, 700 children under five die every day from diarrheal diseases. The lack of sanitation services also has a particular impact on women and girls who are exposed to the threat of violence and harassment, and the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the vast inequities in access to water, sanitation, and hygiene.

In 2018, UNICEF and LIXIL created a bold, new partnership called “Make A Splash!” – UNICEF’s first global shared-value cooperation in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). It combines UNICEF’s WASH sector leadership with LIXIL’s global expertise in toilet design and innovation to tackle the sanitation and hygiene crisis.

As part of LIXIL’s brand portfolio, GROHE is launching its “Energy for Life” campaign, which will take place from June to August in 13 countries across EMENA[2] to raise awareness and support partnership activities: GROHE will donate 20 EGP for every participating GROHE shower system or thermostat shower system purchased to help provide a child with access to a toilet at home or a school with bars of soap.

“LIXIL makes better homes a reality for everyone, everywhere. As a global organization, sustainability is at the heart of what we do, and we have the responsibility to leverage our expertise to make a positive impact on the world. But sadly, access to basic sanitation and hygiene remains one of the greatest challenges today, and LIXIL is committed to make toilets and handwashing accessible for all through its diverse and inclusive brand portfolio. GROHE has always supported the ‘Make a Splash!’ partnership through multiple internal fundraising activities but today I take great pride in reaffirming our support with the ‘Energy for Life’ campaign, that invites end users to help drive change,” says Jonas Brennwald, Leader LIXIL EMENA and Co-CEO Grohe AG.

“Growing up in a clean and safe environment is every child’s right. Basic toilets and hand washing facilities at home and school are critical to keep children healthy and prevent the spread of disease. We appreciate GROHE’s support to the LIXIL and UNICEF ‘Make a Splash!’ partnership which will help to ensure more children have access to clean, safe toilets and hand hygiene so they lead healthier lives”, says Carla Haddad Mardini, Director, Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division, UNICEF.

A bold mission: LIXIL and UNICEF are tackling the sanitation crisis

The “Make a Splash!” partnership contributes to the Sustainable Development Goal target 6.2 “to achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all, and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations.”

GROHE will support the work of LIXIL and UNICEF to rehabilitate WASH facilities and promote good hygiene practices in at least 10 primary health facilities, helping 200,000 children and their families stay healthy by improving access to clean sanitation and hand washing and promoting safe hygiene habits., The partnership between LIXIL and UNICEF builds on their strengths to realize a shared ambition to tackle the global sanitation crisis.

As UNICEF changes people’s attitudes about open defecation and the use of poor, unsafe facilities, people are demanding better sanitation and hygiene services. LIXIL helps meet this demand through its SATO toilet products, which provide safe, affordable and sustainable solutions for communities to improve and sustain proper sanitation and hygiene.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, LIXIL devised the SATO Tap, an affordable and innovative handwashing station for low-income households that lack access to running water. The SATO Tap consists of a plastic base with a soap holder and a nozzle that can be fitted with widely available plastic bottles. It can be operated with a simple nudge, ensuring minimal contact and releasing just enough water to practice safe hygiene.

SATO toilets were first introduced in 2013. Featuring a counterweight trap door that helps prevent unpleasant odors and insects, a SATO toilet consumes 80% less water to flush than a conventional toilet. SATO aims to be a self-sustaining social business by establishing a local Make, Sell, Use cycle in the community – creating jobs and allowing local manufacturers and stakeholders to continue the business independently to help communities continuously improve sanitation.

15 Signs You’re Dating The Wrong Person

You're Dating The Wrong Person

Wondering whether you’re actually with the right person? You might be in a relationship for all the wrong reasons, whether you’re depressed, feel lonely, too dependant or need someone to give you attention. You might be staying in a relationship that is causing you a lot of trouble just for the sake of not being alone.

Here’s how to tell if you’re in a relationship with the wrong person and how you can cut yourself off before it gets too toxic.

By Mariam Elhamy

1. You Communicate Your Concerns But Nothing Ever Changes

In a healthy partnership, you and your partner will express your individual concerns and find a way to tackle issues together. But if you love the wrong person, you can have all the tough talks you want, and communicate your concerns as often as you like, but nothing ever changes. At that point you’re both just postponing a breakup that’s bound to happen.

2. You Won’t Admit That Your Long Distance Relationship isn’t Working

Different schedules and different timings, long-distance relationships need a lot of patience, work, acceptance and trust to work but given all that we are only human. Relationships are like flowers that you have to water every day, if you don’t give them enough attention they will wither and die.

3. Compatibility is Just As Important As Love

Love alone can keep a relationship alive but not for long. If your habits and interests are different and you can’t meet in the middle without someone feeling that they are making sacrifices, you may have fallen for the wrong person and you’re looking at a future full of arguing and resentment.

4. Forever On and Off

Being optimistic that things might change is great but you’re a bit too optimistic if you think that after breaking up with someone more than 3 times it might work again. So if you’re stuck in a cycle where there’s a lot of drama and you keep breaking up and getting back together, you have to break it up for good.

5. You’ve Made Drastic Lifestyle Changes for Them

Your lifestyle shouldn’t change much after you get in a relationship but if it does and you feel like you’re not doing the things you love or not seeing your friends and family as much, these changes affect your relationship eventually.

6. They’re Not Into “Labels”

It’s cool to just see where the relationship is going but if you fell for someone who isn’t committing to you in any way and are not setting boundaries or being clear on what they want out of the relationship then you’re with the wrong person. If they know what they want they’ll just go for it but if they’re still unsure then don’t waste more time on them because you clearly have different goals/values.

7. You’re Only With Them Because It’s Comfortable

If you’ve been fighting and arguing a lot and you find yourself sticking around because “it’s comfortable and they know you well” you might have outgrown the relationship. Being with someone who’s been around for what seems like forever can make you feel terrified to leave your comfort zone but it’s a clear sign you’re with the wrong person.

8. They’re Not The Type To Apologize

We are all human and we make mistakes, if your partner is too good to admit their mistakes and apologize but instead keep turning the tables or blaming it on the circumstances, or even worse, on you, then you’re with the wrong person.

9. You’re Uncomfortable Around Their Family and Your Friends Hate Him/Her

It’s important to have the people in your life at least like and respect your partner. If both you and your partner can’t get along with each other’s friends and family it will always be uneasy and create trouble later on. Don’t take the advice of the people around you lightly, if they keep pointing out that your relationship is unhealthy, they might have a point.

10. Your Relationship Makes You Feel Emotionally Exhausted

If you feel that your partner makes you feel emotionally exhausted, you may be in love with the wrong person. If you two have a pattern of triggering each other during arguments, you may be too toxic for each other.

11. You’re Not Physically Attracted to Them

They don’t light up your fire and you don’t feel butterflies around them. Physical attraction might be more important than you think.

12. They Don’t Encourage Your Dreams

Your partner should always push you to be the best but if they bring you down or just don’t care about your passions at all, they are not right for you.

13. You Both Avoid Confronting The Obvious

Being honest about how you feel and what you want is very important in a relationship. If you keep pushing trouble under the rug and postponing important conversations, it will come back and bite you eventually.

14. You Never Feel Like You’re Good Enough

If your partner never has anything nice to say and no matter how hard you try, you never seem to be doing anything right and you feel like you always have to prove yourself. If they are always asking you to change it might signify that they don’t actually love you for who you are but they are trying to sculpt you into something that they could love.

15. You Just Know It

When you are with the right person it will just feel right. Sometimes you have to trust your gut feeling when it tells you things. If you find yourself always thinking of the potential of the relationship and daydreaming about things that currently don’t exist, there’s a chance you’re in love with the idea and not the reality.

It’s okay to realize that you are dating the wrong person. If any of these reasons sound true to you, it’s time to think about the level of compatibility between you and your partner.

Leaving a relationship is often painful, but by cutting someone loose, you might be making it easier for both of you to find a more suitable partner.

10 Myths About Periods Unveiled

periods

There have always been so many myths going around about periods since the beginning of time and the more facts we know about it the better we can understand how our body works. Today we are breaking some of those myths with true facts about periods so read on.

By Mariam Elhamy

Myth #1 You lose a lot of blood on heavy flow days

You only lose the equivalent of 5 tablespoons of blood the whole time you are on your period. Even on heavy flow days, you might think that you’re losing a lot of blood but it’s usually from 1 tablespoon to a small cup of blood.

If you think that you are losing way more than that you should consult a doctor.

Myth #2 You can postpone or bring your period sooner

Some recommend that you try eating or drinking certain things to postpone or have your period sooner, although this might makes sense because period gets affected by cold weather and what your eating/drinking, it is generally not true.

*Cold weather actually makes your period heavier, longer and more painful. That’s why it’s always recommended to have warm drinks and apply a hot water bag.periods

Myth #3 You can’t get pregnant while on your period

It’s actually very possible to get pregnant while on your period. The reason is that sperm survives for up to 5 days inside your body so if you generally have short periods you might still ovulate after it is finished.

Myth #4 You should get your period when you are 12-13 years old

During earlier times, girls actually used to get their periods at the age of 17. Nowadays because of the more stressful lifestyle (which triggers the period) and different eating habits, the average age for girls to get their period became 12. That’s because fat cells create more estrogen and the more estrogen you have the sooner your cycle will come.

Myth #5 Your cycle starts after 28 days

You don’t have to get your period exactly after 28 days, so don’t freak out if it’s a day or two late. Period cycles differ from one person to another starting from 21 to 35 days depending on your age, activity and other health-related factors.

Myth #6 Your weight and lifestyle don’t affect your cycle

More body fat means excess estrogen production. That means that gaining or losing a lot of weight quickly changes your cycle pattern. Stress could also affect your cycle and result in a late or early period.periods

Myth #7 Your body doesn’t change when you have your period

Your body changes a lot when you’re on your period. You bloat, your breasts get swollen, your voice changes slightly and you smell different.

According to a study from Florida State University, when men smell clothing worn by an ovulating woman and not a menstruating one, their testosterone levels rise and they are more aroused. The scent change is otherwise undetectable.

Myth #7 You get your normal period while on birth control

You actually don’t lose any eggs when you’re on birth control, so even if your flow looks the same, it’s not caused by the same biological process as a normal period.

Myth #8 Periods synch up

You can’t actually synch periods with someone you live with or see every day, it’s a myth.

Myth #9 Being in the water stops your period

periodsBeing submerged in water doesn’t stop your period because your uterine lining will continue to shed normally. The pressure from the water is what stops blood from flowing out, once you’re out of the water it will flow normally.

Myth #10 Your pain tolerance is higher when on your period

During your period your estrogen levels decrease. That means that you have the lowest pain threshold during the premenstrual and menstrual phases.

10 Things Women Do That Men Always Find Sexy

El Harafeesh: Batistuta Defends His Crown

El Harafeesh

‘BETTER THINK TWICE!’ warns the juggernaut of Egyptian rap scene to his haters, shaking up the scene with his newest release “El Harafeesh”! A track packed to the brim with a lyrical onslaught for those whose egos grow too big or suffer from delusions of grandeur.

Holding no punches back, BATISTUTA reminds his rivals who they’re dealing with. No different from Amir Karara’s “Ghofran” in “Nasl Al Agrab”, a big fish doesn’t entertain small Frys, “El Harafeesh” borrows the popular line ‘Kottaa Kossal Kossah’ that went heavy trending on social media.

Having laid the foundation for a strong base in the Egyptian rap scene since his humble beginnings in Alexandria back in 2006, he cultivated a large and loyal fan base with his powerful, combative and fearless lyrics and personality.

Inspiring the same drive and mentality in his listener’s minds, he’s steadily built up a following which surged through his hit “El Nos Gneh” back in 2018, which was followed up with “CosmoWanda” featuring rappers Wegz and El 5ive. Embracing his individuality, authenticity and personality, he sparks that spirit within his listeners.

His favorite artists being those that had to work their way to the top like Eminem, Pop Smoke and Jay-Z, it’s no surprise that his music tackles the challenges of “the streets, peoples everyday problems, personal issues and life”.

His goal of “helping people” coupled with his efforts to “support young rappers” in the Egyptian music scene because he feels that he “wants people to know and learn music”, with such a vision and drive, it potentially lines him up to being the next kingpin of the Egyptian rap scene.

Displaying his unique visual identity in several music videos grabbed the scene’s attention, with “El Saher” being his first clip to achieve one million views in a short time which given his position in rap, trap and hip hop scene is nothing to scoff at.

Continuing to build upon their string of successes, he continued to expand his library with over 20 tracks. Cultivating a steady million views per video on Youtube, with “El Saher” hitting 1.7 million views and “Ezzayak”,”Churchill”, “El Moled” and “El Tofan” hitting one million views each.

Having such a loyal and energetic fan base, he’s played in over 40 gigs and shown a rapid jump in terms of engagement over the past two years, proving that authenticity will always come on top. Putting forward a passionate energy that is distinguished with its solid beats and hard-hitting words, providing the words to bring forth the courage in his listener’s hearts to confront the challenges and obstacles they face.

His determined mindset inspires and encourages his listeners and his fierce attitude guarantees that it wont be easy toppling this king off the hill. Having nothing to prove to anyone, BATISTUTA lays it clearly out there for all to hear. Mess with him and you better have an umbrella because a storm is headed your way!
