High-profile real estate developments vied for top honours at last night’s glitzy Cityscape Awards for Real Estate in Egypt

14th March, 2018, Cairo, Egypt: Following the conclusion of a successful two-day Cityscape Egypt Conference, the Cityscape Awards for Real Estate in Egypt illustrated advances in the real estate sector by recognising outstanding concepts in real estate development and architecture.

Cityscape Awards for Real Estate in Egypt took place last night at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza and celebrated 33 distinguished projects who were in the running for the converted awards, from culturally integrated city skylines to mixed-use urban communities from across Egypt.

Sponsored by Maisonette Holding and JLL, the Awards shortlist consisted of some of Egypt’s notable developers and architects who went head-to-head in each of the eight categories.

“The 33 names vying for top honours this evening are evidence of an Egypt on the cusp of a new era of design and innovation. EXHIBITORS TO REVEAL EGYPT’S MOST PROMINENT MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENTS

The increased demand for residential real estate with retail, leisure and entertainment amenities is driving developers to create more mixed-use developments. The 7th edition of Cityscape Egypt – which kicks off on Wednesday – will highlight some of these innovative new projects

22 March, 2018, Cairo, Egypt: Prompted by the rise in demand for residential communities with integrated retail, leisure and entertainment facilities, real estate developers at this year’s Cityscape Egypt are ramping up efforts to entice potential homebuyers with a range of plush villas and townhouses in new mixed-use developments.

Opening its doors on March 28th and running until the 31st at its new venue the Egypt International Exhibition Centre (EIEC) in Mehwar Almosheer Tantawy in New Cairo, the 7th edition of Cityscape Egypt will reveal hundreds of real estate investment opportunities for prospective buyers across all price points.

Egypt’s foremost developers are expected to tout their latest projects, with most developments featuring a strong emphasis on lifestyle and community living. According to experts, market trends are indicative of a rise in demand for residential communities that cater to homeowners’ requirements of green space, retail such as cafes and restaurants, leisure facilities, education, and healthcare.

“The current demand in the Egyptian real estate market is for lifestyle products,” said Ian Albert, Regional Director at Colliers. “Cairenes are looking for secure neighbourhoods complete with community retail facilities, as well as education and healthcare facilities that complement the residential component. Affordability is also of primary concern as consumers are becoming more price sensitive and competition is becoming intense.”

Exhibitors at this year’s Cityscape Egypt will speak to this need.

Tatweer Misr will be launching three mixed-use, residential projects at Cityscape Egypt: Fouka Bay, in Ras El Hekma North Coast; Bloomfields, New Cairo; and IL Monte Galala in Sokhna. Bloomfields in New Cairo will also include, commercial space, parks and open-air galleries.

Hyde Park Developments are expected to launch the latest phase of its Hyde Park Business District New Cairo, and the second phase of Coast 82, on the North Coast.

Eng. Amin Serag, CEO of Hyde Park said: “The company intends to inject further investment by introducing several new residential, administrative, service and tourism projects to support the Egyptian economy.”

With a focus on lifestyle products, Hyde Park plans on developing an area of 40 acres in 2018, devoted to leisure activities, including spaces for all sports. “In addition to a social club, an elite team comprising sports cadres and administrators in Egypt will run the club in accordance with the administration standards of international organisations,” added Serag.

Visitors to the four-day show, will have a chance to meet developers, who will offer special promotions on residential units and complexes, as well as property consultants who will be able to dispense advice.

Developer, SUD will showcase High City, Capital Heights 1, and Capital Heights 2. High City, which will be ready in 2020, sits on top of a hill on Obour City overlooking Ahmed Orabi Square as well as the entrance to the Fifth District. The residential complex will feature green space, a shopping mall and health clubs. A 0% down payment and a 5-year instalment will be offered at the show.

Tabarak Developments will showcase its popular 90 Avenue development in New Cairo and Capital East Residence in Nasr City.

“90 Avenue is expected to deliver phase one fully finished in 2018 with a total investment of 7 billion EGP. In addition, Capital East Residence, which was launched in February 2017, with 800 million EGP is expected to start delivering its units in 2019,” said Ali El Shorbany, CEO and Chairman of Tabarak Developments.

This year’s platinum sponsor, PROJECTS, will showcase its Blues Tiffany development, in Ras El-Hekma on Egypt’s North Coast. The project is spread over 250 acres and the developer will offer a 10% discount and will also reveal flexible payment structures at the show.

This year, visitors looking to gain knowledge, insight and advice on the real estate sector can attend the Cityscape Talks, a free-to-attend content offering held on the show floor on all four days. Visitors can hear from speakers on how to maximise their real estate investment, find out about the current market trends, acquire important information before finalising their purchase and network with potential business contacts in the industry. Speakers include, real estate brokers, architects, engineers and other professionals.

Other exhibitors at this year’s Cityscape Egypt include: Talaat Moustafa Group, SODIC, Aristo Developers, Ardic for Real Estate Development, Edge Architects, Madaar Development, Misr Italia Properties, Mousa Coast Development, and many more.

In the Stars: Your March Horoscopes

By Maeri Frances

March opens on a harmonious note, so go into the month with a positive attitude. So long as you make a point of staying focused, things should swing along rather nicely, at least until Jupiter goes retrograde on the 9th. Then, any grand plans that were not well thought out may come messily unstuck. Expect a few more glitches when Mercury follows suit on the 23rd. In a nutshell, get important stuff done in the first week. Don’t forget, your rising sign plays a big role, so check that out as well if you know it.

Pisces

Happy birthday, Pisces!

If your birthday falls on the 1st or 2nd of the month it could herald a good 12 months ahead. The first few days give you opportunities and support, so get yourself into top gear and get as much done as possible. Take care of details as the month goes on, travels plans might fall through due to financial glitches. The period between the 13th and 17th is generally positive for strategizing and putting plans into action.

Taurus

The 1st is a day that holds a lot of romantic magic for you. Is it friendship or is it love? Hopefully a nice mix of both, we say. Friends can make or break this month for you in many ways, so keep them on side. Venus and Mars will be in your Solar 12th house, so affairs of the heart may be played out behind the scenes. It’s best to keep things that way, unless you want to be fuel for the gossip fires. Nurture close relationships and don’t take them for granted this March.

Cancer

An urge to hit the road, jump on a plane or set sail in the first couple of weeks can be replaced by renewed enthusiasm for your job and involvement in the world at large. You may even find your time and energy torn between your outside commitments and domestic life, which at present may feel rather burdensome. Take care after the 23rd as to what you say, post or tweet in public, with Mercury retrograde things could be misconstrued.

Virgo

Maybe you need to lighten up a bit this month, Virgo. Seek out the company of friends who can get your mind off the treadmill for an hour or two. Let your feelings rule your head occasionally, and understand that life can throw curveballs so you need to be able to go with the flow. You can benefit a lot from adding an active sport or form of exercise into your routine. Find something you enjoy so you will not be tempted to make excuses to skip. It may also be wise to get your finances under a tighter rein, just saying!

Scorpio

Is it spring, or just you in the mood for enjoying life to the full? The first week urges you to bring out your more playful side, let your intuition guide you and be creative. When Venus and Mars enter your sixth house there is a chance that things could get a bit hot and steamy around the work front. Single Scorpios may find that someone is giving them the eye, or vice versa. The 13th is a good day for getting things done.

Capricorn

The first week or so of March may see you out and about and busy with meetings and errands. By the second part of the month you may be more in a mood to close your phone and computer and chill at home with family. Even so, that may not guarantee the peace and quiet you so desperately need. The key to getting though these days intact is to seek out moments when you can rest and relax where ever possible. The 29th is a great day to purchase something new for the home.

Aries

Keep your cool as the stage is being set for you to make some major game-plays.    Mercury enters your birth sign on the 6th, and is followed the next day by Venus, so you should be able to charm anybody who crosses your path. It’s a great time to refresh your beauty routine and upgrade your wardrobe as well. The 11th is a day when actions will speak louder than words, as far as you are concerned.

Gemini

Hard work put in on the career front during the first two weeks of March should start delivering rewards as the month draws on, so you can safely ease up a bit and reconnect with your friends. You will need to pay attention to your finances over the coming few months, especially joint assets and lines of credit. Clear overdue bills as quickly as possible. The 20th looks good for socializing; so hit the town with your best buddies for a night of fun.

Leo

If you are feeling restless you should take advantages of opportunities to head out of town in the second part of the month. Sometimes a break in a different culture and ambience is just the tonic you need. Even though you have a hardy constitution, you are in a prolonged phase of needing to pay more attention to your routines, health and general wellbeing. Get into good eating habits, catch up on rest when you need it and don’t push yourself too hard.

Libra

Is it just you, or are people on the home front being more aggressive and irritating this month? Try to be calm and diplomatic, and give others the benefit of the doubt if they are being particularly annoying. Use that energy positively; the enthusiasm of others can also work as a stimulus when you need to move your butt a little. Any agreements need to be double checked after the 23rd when Mercury goes retrograde. Read the fine print in contracts and documents, and don’t accept verbal promises. Get it in writing!

Sagittarius

The time is ripe for you to get home affairs in order. Any ideas you have regarding updating your décor should be successful and attractive this month, so roll up your sleeves and let inspiration take over. As the middle of the month draws near the focus will shift more towards hobbies, romance and matters to do with children. Mercury is retrograde from the 23rd and will be up to his tricks, so double check and don’t rely on your customary good luck too much. The 29th shines for romance.

Aquarius

Finances may get a temporary boost at the beginning of the month, but money will slip through your fingers quickly as well. You will need to pay particular attention to anything you say or write from the 23rd. Things could be taken differently than you intended, so be cautious. Apart from that, you could be plagued by technical and mechanical hiccups. The usual advice for a Mercury retrograde: back up that computer, and don’t delay on servicing the car. Best get it checked early in the month.

Kidscopes: Your Child’s 2018 Forecast

Kidscopes: Your Child’s 2018 Forecast

By Maeri Frances

Happy Mother’s Day! Remember the moment when you held that adorable little bundle in your arms for the first time? Did you even have an inkling of what was in store? To help you get a handle on navigating 2018, let’s take a look at how the planets are playing out this year for your kids, sign by sign.

Don’t forget, your child’s rising sign plays a big role, so check that out as well if you know it.

Aries

The quirky, unpredictable, innovative, independent and sometimes chaotic planet Uranus has been coursing through Aries since mid 2010. Maybe that’s why we have a bunch of uncontrollable little geniuses running around. Discipline? Forget it…. these babes are a few steps ahead of you, especially when it comes to tech stuff. Feed that interest, they may be the game changers a few years down the line.  Give them freedom, guide them on a loose rein, and be their best buddy.

Life lesson for 2018: Managing finances – and they may have some out-of-the-box ideas on that as well.

Taurus

Your solid, affectionate, dependable little child may suddenly start to keep you guessing this year, especially if his or her birthday falls at the beginning of the sign. Expect the unexpected, unpredictable behavior, flashes of brilliance, and ideas that seem to come out of nowhere. Nurture this as much as you can, allow that little mind to feel free to explore new ideas, new technology, and making new friends.

Life lesson for 2018: Allow independence and originality to bloom.

Gemini

Bright little chatterboxes, these Gemini kids. This year, the challenge will be to keep them focused and on track. Their curious minds may be delving into all of life’s mysteries, so be ready to provide the answers! Keep them busy with plenty of reading material, as well as a list of good educational documentaries and films. Health matters look good, it is a good time to instill an appreciation for nutritious eating and exercise.

Life lesson for 2018: Routines can be fun!

Cancer

Emotional, moody and sometimes shy, Moon-ruled Cancer children can actually be quite resilient. They need to be coaxed gently out of their shell when upset, harsh words will not get you anywhere. This year they have oppositions from heavy hitting planets, Saturn and Pluto. The realities of interacting with others will need to be faced. Reaching solutions and compromises will need your gentle guidance, and unconditional love.

Life lesson for 2018: Learn to roll with the punches.

Leo

A Leo of any age loves to be the boss, or king of the castle. Nobody laps up attention more than your little Sun child. This year you may need to teach him or her the importance of being part of a team, along with social skills and the art of cooperation and sharing. 2018 is a good year to place more responsibility on those proud little shoulders, especially when it comes to routine chores.

Life lesson for 2018: Shine through originality and excellence.

Virgo

Virgo children are generally quiet little souls, just give them a computer or book and they will amuse themselves for hours. Picky eaters, yes, and not always keen on rowdy games; they also need the freedom to choose their own friends. 2018 brings a period of strong earth energy; this will help Virgo kids find practical applications for their inventive minds. You will still need to encourage them to get out and about in the fresh air; tennis lessons, maybe?

Life lesson for 2018: Travel to visit a new and different culture.

Libra

Charmers from their very first moments, Libra children are sociable and adore beautiful, and usually expensive objects. This year may see them facing a few hard realities in terms of making do with what they have, as finances in the home may be a bit tight. Just so long as there is plenty of love and family time together! This could be a valuable period for instilling a set of non-materialistic values to support them through life.

Life lesson for 2018: Learn to look beyond surface appearances.

Scorpio

The year has provided Scorpios of all ages with great opportunities for growth. This often means a gain in weight as well, so 2018 could be the year to get your little Scorpio into a healthy eating regimen and some active sport. His or her mental faculties should be in fine fettle, so encourage learning and study in a quiet ambience.  Even from an early age Scorpios love to delve into a wide range of subjects, so try to provide the tools that will support this natural curiosity.

Life lesson for 2018: Learn to exercise self-control.

Sagittarius

The past couple of years may have been a bit tough for young Sagittarians; they could have been forced to grow up rather quickly. The good news is that the path ahead is much easier. Restrictions may have been lifted; there will be more scope for getting out and having fun. This is the year as well to teach your child how to respect financial resources, so why not allow them to handle their own pocket money and personal expenses?

Life lesson for 2018: Freedom comes with its own set of responsibilities.

Capricorn

Serious little Capricorn children are often mature beyond their years, and now with Saturn and Pluto trundling through their birth sign, they may feel that they have the weight of the world on their shoulders. Although 2018 may not be a carefree year for them, it will be useful in letting them reflect and become involved in taking decisions that impact their future. Your task as a mom will be to make sure that enough time is allocated for fun and leisure activities.

Life lesson for 2018: If life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

Aquarius

Don’t worry if your Aquarian kid seems a bit different from his or her peers. That’s the way they are. They can have a huge circle of friends, but still fiercely protect their own personal space and free time. Don’t over-organize them; an Aquarian child must have flexibility to pursue things on a whim from time to time. There could be a tendency to moodiness and brooding this year, so make yourself available for quality time and reassuring chats when your little one seems a bit down.

Life lesson for 2018: Go with the flow, you can’t fight change.

Pisces

If ever a child was made for cuddling, it has to be a Pisces. Emotional, loving and delightfully playful, Pisces kids need to be protected from the world at times as they are far too trusting. 2018 could see their group of friends changing a little. They may seek out slightly older buddies who offer a sense of maturity and savoir-faire. Neptune still brings a dreaminess and inspired creativity to them throughout the coming years, so open up their world with art, theatre and film as much as you can.

Life lesson for 2018: Choose your friends wisely.

The Tap West in Galleria 40

The Tap West

Cairo’s favorite laidback watering hole has landed in Sheikh Zayed offering the locals an oasis of cool drinks, comfort food and live entertainment. We visited on a weekday evening to check out their new digs and enjoy an after work bite.

Signature Dishes

Their famous chicken wing buckets, and their selection of burgers and steaks.

Dishes Sampled

Visitors will be pleased to know that old favorites from the Maadi and East branches are still as reliable as ever. We started our evening off with The Tap’s famous Wings Buckets, in both medium and mild. Accompanied with handy plastic gloves to keep the mess to a minimum, the wings were nicely drenched in tangy spicy sauce and serve as a great snack for those indulging in the drinks menu. Next came the Chicken Strips Bucket in a spicy buffalo sauce and BBQ sauce. The chicken strips are coated to perfection and not at all heavy as you would expect with fried food. The accompanying BBQ sauce is tangy and delicious.

We ordered the decadent Spinach and Cheese Dip next with crispy bread triangles. This dip is a must try, it is sinfully cheesy and perfect for sharing in a group. The Thai Beef Salad arrived next, a large portion, which is filling enough to be a meal. A combination of shredded beef slices, cucumber, carrots, greens and Thai dressing with a kick, this salad fills the quota for healthy eats on the menu.

Feeling the need for some protein, we ordered the Mushroom and Swiss Burger on a freshly baked Brioche bun. Caramelized onions, herby mushrooms and Provolone and Swiss cheese make this burger a delight, plus The Tap has started baking its bread on the premises, which is definitely noticeable. We capped off the mains selection with an excellent prime cut of local fillet, served with creamy mashed potatoes and crunchy veggies. The meat was tender and cooked to perfection, served on a bed of equally yummy sides.

A new cocktail on the menu is The Haka, a mix of vodka, kiwi juice, passion fruit purée and sour mix. Proceed with care; one could easily down three in a sitting. The Superman has a base of energy drink coupled with mixed wild berries and vodka, so it wasn’t our first choice. The Amaretto Sour was very fresh and pleasant; vodka, sweet & sour mix, and Amaretto syrup.

Other Menu Items that Appealed & Beverage Options

Shrimp Rocket Salad, Mushroom Mascarpone Risotto, Buffalo Chicken Tacos, Cajun Shrimp and Artichoke Dip. The whole menu is designed to be appetizing and worth repeat visits.

Beverage options include a full list of cocktails, Sangria, soft drinks, imported spirits, beers, and local/imported wine is available, as well as hot drinks.

Décor & Ambience

The outdoor patio is the star of this new location. You are greeted by a large L-shaped patio full of picnic-style seating with plush red cushions, umbrellas, and lush green surroundings… very soothing. It feels as though you’re on vacation, without leaving the city. Indoors is a large industrial style space that hosts daily entertainment, a large bar area and TV screens.

The ambience is laidback and chill, the perfect spot for after work meet-ups or weekend partying. Service is topnotch and the area is more spacious than both its sister restaurants.

Top Tip: There is a weekend brunch menu perfect for enjoying on their outdoor patio.
