Mohave Restaurant in Cairo Festival City

Mohave restaurant in Cairo Festival City Mall is named after the indigenous Mohave people of the United States. The group is native to the Colorado area and the new restaurant centers its menu and decor on the lives of the nomadic peoples native to the Americas.

Signatures Dishes & Dishes Sampled

There are many dishes on the menu that honor the indigenous Mohave people. The menu has many unique signature items that are not available elsewhere including Frybread Beef Burger, Tipi Blonde, Mohaves’s Way Tacos, and Native American Pot Stew.

It was a long day before we headed to Mohave so we started with two signature mocktails as we waited for our food to arrive. The Mohave’s Way Fizzy Blue Colada and Red Velvet were delicious and could have easily spoiled our appetites. For starters, we chose a wide selection of finger foods like Spinach Con Queso, Spaghetti Nachos, Fried Pickles and Jalapenos, and Crispy Cheddar Bites. The Spinach Con Queso came in a small cookware pot and was presented on a wooden platter; it was so creamy and flavorful we were fighting for every last chip. The other dishes were perfectly portioned for sharing, great for a date or a night out with friends. Moving on to mains, we settled on the Mohaves’s Way Shrimp Tacos, Skillet Beef Burgers, Hawaiian Chicken Kebab, and Native American Pot Stew. The main courses were diverse in their flavor profiles and styles, which was refreshing because everything we ate was genuinely unique. The Hawaiian Chicken Kebab was sweet and sour with perfectly grilled vegetables and the Native American Pot Stew was so large that it could have fed three people. The Mohaves’s Way Shrimp Tacos were by far our favorites with three types of peppers, onions, and tasty shrimp in a soft taco shell. For dessert, we chose the Philadelphia and the Tipi Blonde. The Philadelphia was a very rich cheesecake and the Tipi Blonde was a white version of a brownie topped with sweet vanilla ice cream, both allowing us to indulge our sweet tooth after a savory meal.

Other Menu Options that Appealed & Beverages Available

The Jambalaya was a serious contender, but we simply ran out of space on both our table and in our stomachs.

Beverage options include lots of great soft drink options including hot and cold drinks. The restaurant’s signature drink, called a Mohave’s Way Fizzy, is a fun and delicious drink that goes down easy.

Décor & Ambience

The decor is colorful and casual with indoor and outdoor seating areas for guests to feel comfortable. The theme of the decor echoes the restaurant’s indigenous American menu and is warm and inviting with tribal patterns throughout. The ambience is calm and relaxed, truly a hidden haven to escape the madness of the mall.

All the Details on Child Wellness Check-ups

Well-child visits are a good chance to give your little one a thorough physical exam and address any concern you might have regarding any health issues. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, there are four major benefits of well-child visits:

  • Prevention. Your child gets scheduled immunizations to prevent illness. You also can ask your pediatrician about nutrition and safety at home and at school.
  • Tracking growth and development. See how much your child has grown since your last visit, and talk with your doctor about your child’s development milestones.
  • Raising concerns. Make a list of topics you want to talk about with your child’s doctor.
  • Establishing a positive relationship. Regular visits create a strong trustworthy relationship between the pediatrician, parent and child before the child is sick or injured.

Back to school season is always an ideal time to have your child’s annual exam in order to set them up for a successful academic year.

What could be involved in an integrated well-child visit?

General Examination

The nature of the exam will change somewhat depending on your child’s age, however the pediatrician will look mostly for your child’s weight, height and development milestones in addition to a full body exam. Children involved in school sports programs often needs a sports-specific exam.

Vision Test

Eye exams have become more important than ever due to increased screen use. The use of smartphones and tablets has an impact on users’ blink rate and tear production.
Vision screening is important to prevent the development of a vision difficulty that may affect the child’s health and potential for learning. It is also important to identify children with certain vision liabilities and establish follow-up plans for them.

According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), infants should have their first comprehensive eye exam at six months of age. Children then should have additional eye exams at age three, and just before they enter the first grade — at about age five or six and every two years thereafter.

Children considered at risk of developing eye and vision problems may need additional testing or more frequent re-evaluations.

Hearing Test
Screening recommendations vary, however according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, hearing screening should be conducted:

  • At school entry for all children
  • At least once during middle school
  • At least once during high school

Screening may be required more often for children with other known health or learning needs; speech, language, or developmental delays; or a family history of early hearing loss.

Dental Check

Checkups include an examination of your child’s mouth and teeth to check risk of getting cavities. If needed, your child will be referred to a pediatric dentist for treatment.

Various factors might determine how frequently your child needs to have a dental exam, including age, health and risk of tooth decay. Generally, it’s advised to have your child’s teeth checked every six months. However, the dentist might recommend fewer or more-frequent visits depending on your child’s risk factors for oral health problems.

Nutritional Review

Discuss healthy eating choices, whether your child brings food from home or buys it at school.

Immunization Review

Depending on your child’s age, certain immunizations are needed. Your pediatrician will be able to advise whether your child is up to date or needs a certain vaccine dose or booster.

In addition to routine vaccines, the seasonal flu shot is recommended annually for all children older than six months as soon as the vaccine becomes available, which is usually early October.

7 Simple Sustainable Swaps for an Eco – Friendlier You!

By Sherifa Ismail
Battling high levels of pollution on a daily basis can make most people shrug at the concept of going even remotely green. But, there are simple swaps that can make a difference, it all adds up. Beyond your typical bamboo tote bags, stainless-steel straw and car-pooling-towork recommendations, there is an array of basic swaps and simple products that can improve your life.

Opt for local products vs. mass produced imported goods

Over the past few years the Egyptian natural goods market has been gaining rapid traction based on quality of content and packaging. Stores like Nefertari, Imtenan and similar pop-up boutiques like Black Lotus and Secrets of Eden supply shampoos, body wash and oils, and even mosquito repellents at an affordable price. In addition, these stores follow a strict sulphate-free, no-artificial coloring, no-preservative and biodegradable policy. Therefore you’ll be getting higher quality good-for-you products at lower prices whilst reducing the long commute imported goods have to travel to reach this side of the world. End-result: A lower carbon footprint and better hair and skin!

Tea strainers vs. tea bags

Paper tea bags contain toxins, pesticides and dioxins. Epichlorohydrin, a commonly used pesticide found in tea bags is known to cause cancer in animals. Brewing this junk with your favorite tea will not only completely negate opting for a healthier option but also knock your immune system down. Buy a tea ball or tea strainer from any supermarket and start using loose leaf tea for an aromatic and toxin-free afternoon fix.

Reusable coffee cups vs. single-use coffee cups

Why not avoid single-use coffee cups and just bring your own cup to your workplace, gym and even favorite coffee shops? Some may even offer you a small discount for doing so! It should be known that coffee cups generally cannot be recycled even though they are made out of paper. This is due to the wax coating on the paper rendering them too costly to recycle.

Bare bar soap vs. liquid soap pumps

Pump or liquid soaps and body washes usually come in thick heavily inked plastic packaging. They are easily found unwrapped or in a thin paper/plastic wrapper in any super or mini market. Most FMCG and body-care companies manufacture bare bar soap versions of the same liquid product, so you can stay squeaky clean without giving up on your favorite scent or brand. There are a few companies out there such as Lush that have created shampoo and conditioner bars for the hair which advocate a longer shelf life and less product and packaging waste. Avoid refilling liquid soap dispensers as they are commonly riddled with disease-causing bacteria.

Vinegar, baking soda, lemon and essential oils vs. chemical cleaners

Make your own all-purpose cleaning liquids, all you need is a small spray bottle (you can get one from any good pharmacy) and fill it with:
• ½ cup white vinegar
• 2 tablespoons of baking soda
• Juice of a single lemon
• Any essential oil you fancy And there you go, a multi-purpose cleaning spray and air freshener that can be safely applied on all counter tops, stubborn stains and grease marks in both the kitchen and bathrooms. By replacing toxic industrial household cleaners with natural recipes, you will make your life better, eliminate any bad odors and save yourself a few hundred pounds a year.

Reusable bottle vs. plastic bottled water

Here are a few disturbing facts about plastic pollution:

  • Over the last ten years we have produced more plastic than we have during the whole of the last century.
  • It takes 500 – 1,000 years for plastic to degrade.
  • The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is the largest ocean garbage site in the world located off the coast of California. This floating mass of plastic is twice the size of Texas with plastic pieces outnumbering sea life six to one.
  • Plastic constitutes approximately 90 percent of all trash floating on the ocean’s surface – with 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile.
  • Plastic chemicals are absorbed by the body.
  • Please stop buying plastic water bottles. You’ll find sleek stainless steel and other re-usable water bottles in every super-market – some can even be customized!

Pads or tampons vs. menstrual cups

Disposable menstrual products are virtually a chemical soup, fortified with polyester, adhesives and propylene glycol (PEG), and bleach, all linked to hormone disruption, cancer, birth defects, dryness and infertility. In addition, they contribute vastly to waste where plastics in a pad can take several hundreds of years to degrade.

A range of reusable alternatives has been introduced to Western markets and has recently managed to discreetly make its way to our local market. These include cloth pads, period underwear and the menstrual cup. A menstrual cup is a small flexible cup made of silicone or latex rubber, which collects rather than absorbs. It can be used for up to 12 hours.
They are easily washable, come with travel bags and they can last up to a decade. A prominent brand, the Diva Cup can be ordered via Amazon, it is also available in Nūn Center in Zamalek.
