World Water Day: Why Most People Fail to Save Water

save water

If you think you can save water you might be wrong. We tend to underestimate the value of water when in fact it is finite. Earth only has 3% freshwater sources and 2.5% of those are trapped in glaciers, soil, or lies too far under the surface of the earth. That leaves us with 0.5%!

Use these simple measures in your daily routine to save water properly:

By Mariam Elhamy

  1. Don’t overfill your kettle. You probably need water for just 2 cups and the rest of that water will probably just go to waste. Save water and energy by only filling your kettle with the amount of water you need. Also, it will boil faster!
  2. Check your toilet for leaks. Put a few drops of any food coloring in your toilet tank, if it starts to appear in the toilet itself without you flushing it then you have a leak that might be wasting more than 400 liters every day.
  3. Don’t flush excessively or for no reason. Flushing away toilet paper and cigarette butts also flushes 26 liters of fresh water so just throw them in the bin.
  4. If you like taking long showers (30+mins) take a bath instead.save water
  5. While you lather your soap, scrub, shave or brush your teeth, save 6 liters of water by turning it off. (Fill the bottom of your sink with some water to rinse your razor while shaving)
  6. Remember that dripping faucet you’ve been meaning to fix? Fix it! Leaky pipes and faucets tend to waste 200 liters of water per day.
  7. Use your washing and laundry machines only when they are fully loaded. Washing machines use more than 100 liters per wash.
  8. Fill your sink with clean water when washing fruits and vegetables instead of letting it run. Same when washing dishes, only run the water after you’ve finished scrubbing to rinse.save water
  9. Water your lawn early and long enough for water to go down to the roots where it is needed. A light sprinkling midday will just evaporate because of the heat.
  10. Let the leftover water from boiling veggies or pasta to cool and use it to water your plants.

How Making Someone Smile Can Actually Make your Day

how to make someone smile

Whether it’s your neighbor or your crush, smiling is contagious and you could be making someone’s day just by smiling at them. For International Day of Happiness, we want to make sure that everyone is having a good day so here is how to make someone smile in a few ways.

Spread the happiness. Spread the smiles!

By Mariam Elhamy

1. Give your colleague at work a genuine compliment. Anything simple like “Your hair looks great today” or “have you lost weight?” can make someone’s whole week.

2. Call someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Even if they haven’t reached out to you or have forgotten to call you on your birthday, don’t take it as an excuse not to call them. The phone works both ways, right? Or even better yet, ask them to go out for coffee.

“When you forgive, you heal your own anger and hurt and are able to let love lead again. It’s like spring cleaning for your heart.” ― Marci Shimoff

Marci Shimoff is the author of the self-help book: Happy for No Reason

3. Tell someone you love them out of the blue. You don’t have to do it verbally it could either be through sending flowers, a small gift or a nice handwritten letter.

4. Give generous tips and not just for International Day of Happiness, be generous.

5. Offer some water to the people who work outdoors. A security guard, a police officer, a valet or the delivery guy. Even if they decline, it will still mean a lot.

6. Help people by holding the door for them, helping them carry heavy stuff or letting them use the bathroom stall first.

7. Ask someone at work how they’ve really been doing. You probably spend at least 60-70% of your day at work, small talk just won’t cut it. When you share they’ll start sharing too.

“Happiness is not just a mood — it’s a work ethic.” – Shawn Achor

Shawn Anchor wrote The Happiness Advantage and many other books about happiness, business and success

8. When someone makes a stupid mistake and they obviously feel guilty about it, laugh about it first so that they laugh too and feel less awkward.

9. Hug people. Pat them on the back. Caress their shoulder. Pull their cheeks.

10. Say a random thank you to the people close to you, when they ask why tell them it’s because you appreciate their presence in your life.

Again, smiling is contagious so sharing a smile with a stranger can really go a long way. But don’t forget to also smile to your mom, best friend or significant other.

Castle Development and Fawry Sign A Protocol

Castle Development and Fawry Sign A Protocol

Castle Development continues to support its customers through employing Fawry’s services to serve their needs. Cairo, March 10, 2021 – Castle Development, a company that focuses on developing high-value real estate, and Fawry, the leading digital transformation & E-payment platform in Egypt signed a protocol where the latter is projected to help in collecting customer payments through their service.

Eng. Ahmed Mansour, CEO of Castle Development, and Eng. Hossam Ezz El-Din, CCO of Fawry, along a lineup of representatives from both entities were present during the signing. The agreement allows for customers to pay installments through two different methods; through heading to any of Fawry’s locations, or pay online.

The agreement comes as part of Castle Development’s efforts to support their customers and eliminate any obstacles that may come their way; this service will save time and effort while reducing the chances of having to go to a bank or waiting in line for long periods of time to make a payment.

This step is in line with Castle Development’s efforts to digitize its services, especially during these times, as well as with the Egyptian government’s work towards digitizing all financial services and opting for electronic collection of payments as an alternative to traditional methods.

Fawry’s services are spread across 194,000 locations in all of Egypt’s governorates. Based on its own-patented technology, that is fully compliant with international security standards of the ISA 27001 and PA DSS certifications, Fawry performs more than 3 million financial operations daily.

“We constantly strive to provide our customers with various aspects of convenience and safety while making their daily lives smoother. Recent challenges following the COVID-19 outbreak allowed us to take a more serious approach towards the different ways that ensure our customers are safe as they make payments for their future homes, and this is how we landed on Fawry, a company possessing the latest technologies in its feild,” said Eng. Mansour.

He further added that “the application of digital solutions across varying sectors is no longer a choice; it has become a requirement as far as future endeavors are concerned. At Castle Development, we believe in the effect digitization has on our work and how it aligns with the government’s efforts of creating a “digital Egypt” to achieve economic growth. It also has an immense impact on the country’s work towards exporting real estate as Fawry’s services accept payments in USD, EUR, and others, making our products more accessible.”Castle Development and Fawry Sign A Protocol

Fawry offers a lineup of e-payment services for individuals as well as entities through multiple channels including online, using ATMs, mobile wallets and retail points. “Fawry introduced e-payment methods to Egypt; through Fawry, people were able to maximize their use of technology when paying money.

Moreover, the company was able to assist its partners, which include banks, owners of medium enterprises, and institutions in adding value to their businesses through introducing digital channels of payment,” said Eng. Ezz El-Din.

He went on to explain the significance of signing such an agreement with Castle Development saying that “partnering with a developer with premium-quality projects taking place at the New Administrative Capital is a paradigm shift for both parties, especially that Castle Development will be the first real estate developer who uses Fawry’s services to receive installments from its customers. Moreover, the company’s efforts towards digitization and the way it aligns with similar government plans, demonstrate this developer’s remarkable impact on the market.”

Castle Development focuses on the development of high-end real estate projects in Egypt, including residential, commercial, and administrative developments. Established in 2018, the company possesses a paid capital of EGP 1 billion, with investments in the New Capital alone worth EGP 4.5 billion spread across its three projects in the area including their flagship project of Castle Landmark, the commercial project of East Side, as well as another commercial endeavor currently under construction.

Since its inception, Castle Development has made a priority to offer its customers unique services; which include its one-of-a-kind partnership with Allianz Insurance – Egypt, who will cover all remaining installments in case the owner, who purchased property from Castle Development, passed away, and other partnerships that add more layers to the level of trust the company has with its customers.

Red Bull Introduces Alexander Titarenko to the Egyptian Parkour Community

Red Bull’s Ukrainian athlete, Alexander Titarenko, made his way to Egypt as a special guest to the Egyptian parkour community.

During his visit, Titarenko met a coterie of parkour’s practitioners, and shared together their experiences and enthusiasm, especially that parkour is widely popular recently, and considered one of the skyrocketing extreme sports worldwide; which Red Bull always spotlights and give its practitioners the credit they deserve.

Titarenko is a freerunning star who won numerous parkour titles all over the world. Claimed the first place in ‘Red Bull Art of Motion’ in Greece, 2017, ever since Titarenko has been named amongst the best parkour athletes globally.

Thankfully, Red Bull was able to bring Titarenko to Egypt to present his first ever performance on its lands, in the city of Alexandria, along the corniche road, and amid the old-classical neighborhoods.

The video starts with Titarenko’s arrival at Alexandria’s tram station to meet his Egyptian friend; who disappears searching for a ride for his foreign friend.

In an instant, Titarenko finds out that his luggage has been stolen where the ‘unusual pursuit on the streets of Alexandria’ begins, ending up with a mind-blowing astonishment.

The Egyptian authorities facilitated the process of shooting the video, by providing the required permits to come up with a befitting video to the majestic Egyptian lands along with the stellar athlete, as it’s expected that the video will have very high viewing rates due to global interest in the game, and in the events held in Egypt precisely.
