Quick Facts About Nahed El Sebai We Bet You Didn’t Know

nahed el sebai

We got to meet the dedicated, multitalented, family-oriented, Gemini star Nahed El Sebai. We had a very quick chat about her role in Mako, her three biggest wishes in life, her fears and how she dealt with losing both her father and her brother in a short period of time.

Read on! It’s facts time with Nahed El Sebai.

By Mariam Elhamy

You were born into a family of filmmakers, actors and actresses. How did this entice your love for films & acting and who encouraged you the most to go for this career path?

The one who helped me the most was my mom; she showed me the way to where I could go to learn acting and she introduced me to workshops with masters like Mr Khaled Galal, Mohamed Sobhy, Marwa Gebril and many others. She also made me travel to learn acting and theater in America. Nahed El Sebai

Tell us about your role in Mako. We know it’s a film about sharks so what was the hardest thing to shoot?

I played Gharam, a bit of a mysterious character. For most of the film, you rarely know what she wants or what she’s doing and that was one of the things I loved the most about this character, how vague and mysterious she was.

The hardest thing for me was probably the diving hours that were way more than any normal diving hours. We were in the middle of the sea, abroad and we were filming during Christmas and the New Year so it was freezing cold. Acting under the water is generally hard in terms of the acting itself, the breathing and the limited amount of time you have.

What was the hardest period in your life and how were you able to overcome it?

The hardest time in my life was when both my dad and my brother passed away at around the same time. You’re never the same person after the loss of a loved one but you just learn to adapt and live with it. Being around my family helped. Nahed El Sebai

You have two pugs and a parrot. Tell us about them.

I have Sokkar and Mistika my pugs, and Sina my baby parrot but I’m not sure if it’s a boy or a girl because I have to take it for a checkup first at the vet. When I first got Sina I thought it would talk on its own but apparently it has to get some training first.

How did you become good at pole dancing?

I watch a lot of pole competitions. When I first started doing pole I found the dancing to be very challenging and I took it more as a sport that incorporates dance because the movements are mostly very sporty. The dancing part is very hard.

Do you remember your dreams? If so, what was the last dream you had?

I had a dream that my mom bought a new stove and I was curious at why she changed our old one because it was really good. Then when I walked out of the house I found the sea! It was a very cartoonish dream. Nahed El Sebai

Do you like cooking? What do you enjoy cooking the most?

Yes, very much! I consider it a hobby. I can cook everything but what I like doing the most is Molokheya because my mom likes it.

If you could send out one message to your fans, what would it be?

I’d say thank you very much for your love and support. You are the reason for me to be happy when I’m sad and even happier when I’m already happy and to have confidence in myself. I always take my fans into consideration in all my actions because I never want to let them down.

Quickfire round:

What do you look forward to the most in your day?

Doing yoga and watering the plants.

If you have a boat what would you call it?

Farid Shawky.

Who’s the one person you trust with your life and absolutely have to take their opinion in everything?

My mom.

If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?

Health, safety, and that my family stays around me always. And the Oscar!

What is your horoscope sign and what are its characteristics?

My horoscope sign is moody, double-faced, crazy, and curious. I’m a Gemini.

What’s your favorite dish?

Mombar and Mahashi.

Name a fear that you have?

I’m afraid of the dark. Nahed El Sebai

Ways to Read People By Learning These Simple Body Language Signs

body language

Did you know that even if you lie verbally, your body betrays your true intentions? No matter how good you can pretend to be interested in a conversation your body will always show how really bored you actually are. Nonverbal communication is often done unconsciously (instinctively) rather than consciously.

Learn to read these simple body postures, facial expressions and voice tones that will show you the exact message that other people are conveying without actually verbalizing it. In a matter of a few seconds, you can be able to recognize unspoken requests, hidden intentions and simply identify the true message behind what people are saying!

By Olesia Dovzhenko

Dr. Edward G. Wertheim from Northeastern University stated in his work “The Importance of Effective Communication” that body language can play five following roles:

  1. Repetition: It repeats and often strengthens the message you’re making verbally.
  2. Contradiction: It can contradict the message you’re trying to convey, thus indicating to your listener that you may not be telling the truth.
  3. Substitution: For example, your facial expression often conveys a far more vivid message than words ever can.
  4. Complementing: For example, if your boss pats you on the back in addition to giving praise, it can increase the impact of his/her message.
  5. Accenting: Pounding the table, for example, can underline the importance of your message.

Digging a bit deeper into this subject we have discovered a fantastic work of Antoni Lacinai, who is the Global Keynote Speaker and considers to be the Communication Wizard in the corporate world. In his work “51 Body Language Gestures, and What They Signal” he explains the meaning behind some gestures.

A confident dominant person has their hands in their pockets with thumbs outside or on their hips to make themselves look bigger. They will shake your hand firmly with their palm facing down. When standing or sitting their legs will be apart and they will maintain eye contact.

Lack of confidence or defensiveness shows when someone crosses their arms, hunches their back or rounds their shoulders, crosses their legs, fiddles or keeps their eyes down. They tend to make themselves look smaller.

A posture with spread fingers denotes a flirty intention. If they touch your hand or lean in closer it means they’re interested in you.

When someone covers their mouth when they speak, in most cases they might be lying. Blinking a lot, tilting their head, using their non-dominant hand for emphasis and moving a lot are all signs of dishonesty.body language

If they scratch their neck during a conversation, they probably disagree.

If two people cross their legs while standing, they feel safe in each other’s company. They might also imitate each other’s movements and posture.

If their body leans away from you and looks towards the door, they probably feel uncomfortable and their body wants to leave and escape the situation.

body language

When someone leans their head on their hand it shows that they are bored with what you’re saying.
body language

Someone with a straight posture and their nose looking up signifies arrogance, pride and superiority. They might also have an asymmetric smile.

Be careful to always check the context of the situation when trying to read body language. Someone crossing their arms might just be feeling cold. Someone scratching their neck might have neck pain. Look for the signs and notice situations to learn to read people better.

An Art Journey in Downtown Cairo with Art D’Egypte’s CIAD

CIAD

A month before Art D’Egypte’s biggest event of the year, Forever is Now, launches at the Pyramids, Art D’Egypte presents Cairo International Art District (CIAD), a journey through the streets of Downtown Cairo.

By: Aliaa ElSherbini

I went to the Factory space in Wust El Balad, where I scouted for art many times before, as it has become synonymous with exciting exhibitions, but this time, Art D’Egypte has raised the stakes with this newly inaugurated immersive art concept, CIAD.

We began with live painting by Spanish visual artist Alberto Reguera at The Factory, then went on an art tour in the streets of Wust El Balad, where old coffeeshops have been transformed into minimalist art galleries and old shops into art displays.

Art D’Egypte took up 12 spaces in Downtown including, Kodak, the Old Spanish Cultural Centre, Cinema Radio, The Factory, 5 Shops, Access Art Gallery, and Tahrir Cultural Centre Cairo. Then turned them into show spaces and mini galleries to display art in its different forms. Combining paintings, sculptures, installations, holograms, sound, and video art, CIAD is an exhilarating sensory experience.

Downtown Cairo is not a new location for Art D’Egypte’s exhibitions, and it is where continuous renovations and revamps are occurring to revive the heart of Cairo.

Artwork by 60 well-established and international artists from the USA, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Sudan, Switzerland, the UK, Belgium, and of course, Egypt is displayed around the district for you to see. Some emerging local artists were chosen to display their works as well.

It is an artistic journey that you do not want to miss.

Open to the public until 27 October!

Why You Might Be Struggling To Maintain Friendships

Maintain Friendships

Have you been losing a lot of friends lately but have no clue why? We hear you. Sometimes people just drift apart especially with the increasing pressures of life. But that isn’t always the case. There are more profound reasons why you might be losing your friends.

Let’s explore why we sometimes struggle with friendships and how to fix that.

By Mariam Elhamy

Reason #1 You Don’t Have Enough Time

Adult friendships are difficult, especially now that each person has their own job, life and responsibilities. It automatically becomes harder and harder to maintain good contact and quality time with your friends. Maintain Friendships

Always make sure to get some regular catching up with your friends. Preferably face to face if you have the time but if you don’t, then pick up the phone and ask about how they’ve been doing.

Reason #2 You Might Be Growing in Different Directions

And that’s okay! Sometimes friends drift apart because they stop having the same interests and they no longer find many things in common. It only shows that not everything is meant to last forever and we have to accept that. You gave to be okay with the fact that outgrowing friends is a real thing.

Reason #3: Connecting with People Became Difficult

Especially if you’ve had issues trusting others in the past. It might be even harder if you’ve suffered trauma. Bullying, abusive friendships, emotionally manipulative relationships and overstepped boundaries are all examples of things that make it hard and scary for you to let someone in and open up to them.Maintain Friendships

It’s also harder to make new friends as you get older, rejection can be stressful and there are fewer chances to meet new people. Maintain Friendships

Tip: Just don’t be afraid to let go of the past and work on strengthening your current relationships. You never know who might be there for you when you need them the most.

Reason #4: Your Fears are Ruining your Friendships

If you or one of your friends have some sort of fear of abandonment then it would explain why you’re overly possessive and controlling when it comes to them or they to you.

If you’ve been feeling a bit controlled or suffocated by the friendship have a heart-to-heart talk about it with your friend. Tell them what’s bothering you in a gentle but firm way. If your friends have been pulling away because you’ve been possessive with them, ask them what bothers them and work on it.

Maintain Friendships

To cut this bad habit loose you need to learn to give people space or know how to ask for it when needed. Maintain Friendships

Some examples of what you could say:
  • I only have 20 mins to grab a coffee
  • I can’t talk right now, I’ll call you once I can
  • Thanks for the invite, but tonight I need some alone time
  • I’m not okay with you making fun of my insecurities
  • I am struggling with my own mental health right now and I don’t feel like I can be your primary support system

Reason #5: You Don’t Have Enough Energy

If you’re having a tough time and you’re not in your best mental state it might be hard for you to maintain friendships. Your mental capacity is already too consumed by your struggling mental state.

The opposite is also true, if you feel your friends are isolating then maybe they’re going through a tough time. Make sure to check up on them and ask them how they really feel and what’s really been going on with them. You might learn a lot.Maintain Friendships

When people are depressed, they tend to feel unworthy so they pull away from everyone they care about. Make sure you give your friends the attention they need or ask for it when you need it. You need to be very vocal when it comes to this because people can’t read your mind. If they know but haven’t done anything about it, then that’s on them.

To sum it all up, the key to maintaining a good long relationship with your friends is keeping good contact, scheduling and sticking to get-togethers and always opening up and talking about what’s been bothering you because if you don’t fight for your friendships who will? Maintain Friendships

HAPPY LIVING: A Quick Guide To Positive Thinking in 8 Steps

Positive Thinking

Does the overly sold “Fake it till you make it” attitude really work? We surely don’t think so, and here’s why! Avoiding negative thoughts like it’s the plague will definitely draw more of the negativity that we’re trying to avoid. Hiding or faking emotions also cultivates suppressing and silencing these inner emotions, which never serve us well.

How about, instead of forcing pseudo-positivity, we discover the real secret to happiness. Probably; less thinking, judging, analyzing, posing, and acting? Or is it more love, acceptance, genuineness, adventures and, joy?

We should know how to free our minds of the constant obligation of telling ourselves how we should feel. So what are the steps to cultivate healthy positivity? Positive Thinking

By Olesia Dovzhenko

1. Get Busy

Busy people are far happier than lazybones. The feeling of being needed and providing value for this world gives us strength and more energy, than aimless living. Study, discover, and educate yourself! Find your purpose and dedicate a lifetime of living to it!

2. Notice

“Where your focus goes – your energy flows!” – Tony Robbins.

Challenge yourself to focus on the positive things every day. Cultivate gratitude by counting your blessings every time you wake up, fall asleep, or even when you feel down. Develop that child-like observing attitude once you walk by some pleasant area (ex. park), noticing the smallest details that make you fall into an appreciative state of being.

3. Breathe

Positive ThinkingPractice pausing the moment and simply breathe! Master calming or energizing breathing techniques to clear your mind and refresh your inner senses. These exercises cultivate your sensory awareness, which with time, can gift you the ability to intuitively read your body! Positive Thinking

4. Anticipate

Develop an approach to life to always expect the best. By doing so, not only do you program your brain to become more productive in seeking solutions, but also give you a sense of hope that will boost your energy levels. Positive Thinking

Remember: anticipation about a positive future means an expectation of positive outcomes that could lead to them.

5. Be playful

If something unpleasant happens in your life, tell yourself with a convincing tone of voice “It’s for the better! I am ready for something newer and greater!” Release discordance of emotions and avoid inner clash. Take every situation as a game where you tell yourself, “I’m open for newness.” Positive Thinking

6. Taste

For the foodies out there, we’ve got some good news! Yes, food plays a huge role in our lives, enabling our brains to function properly. However, some foods can quickly boost our mood: dark chocolate, salmon, almonds, banana, berries, and many more. Learn to discover new flavors, indulge in healthy foods that trigger your pleasure senses.

7. Travel

positive thinkingTravel does expand you! By exploring previously unknown destinations, we become an upgraded version of ourselves. New emotions, senses, feelings fueled with excitement and novelty will always push our limits and give us a boost of joy. Trust in it. Positive Thinking

8. Drop the Routine

Consciously decide to leave your comfort zone. Why? Simply because it will never serve you well! By committing to the same blueprint for life, you literally live in the past as your brain is a hub of all your yesterdays and everything you consciously and unconsciously expose yourself to. Positive Thinking

Instead, activate new neural pathways that will enable you to function differently! Go after the innocent joy that your heart truly desires! Try new things, eat different food, explore, meet new people, etc. Positive Thinking

Different mindset = new experiences = new state of happiness.

Here, you have explored the ways to uplift your emotional state in order to cultivate a positive approach. Remember to take full accountability for your emotions, as no one is responsible for them but you. Take a conscious decision to positively change.

12 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do

mentally strong people

The agony of self-doubt taunts a lot of people, especially those who tend to overthink a lot and it’s all because of the social pressure that is constantly put on them to be perfect all the time. Making them more vulnerable to criticism and limiting their true potential.

To battle all these conformities, we’re tackling some thinking habits most people do that are really unhealthy for their mental state, which in turn reflects on their decisions. If you’re tired of not achieving your full potential read on because things are about to get serious!

By Mariam Elhamy

Mentally strong people don’t:

1. See Failure As A Weakness

Failing doesn’t change the way they see themselves because strong people know what it means to fail and have no one believe in them then pick themselves up and try again. They don’t let their failures define them or hold them back.

2. See Perfectionism As The Only Way

Holding themselves at a higher place is what makes them stronger but they don’t fuss over what is expected of them or how they should be. Their benchmark is high but realistic and not impossible.

3. Feed Off Of Other People’s Failures or Envy Their Successes

They don’t waste time being petty or compare themselves to others because they know that everyone is walking their own journey. They glorify their strengths, work on their weaknesses and celebrate others’ winnings.

4. Overthink Everything

Mentally strong people know that overthinking tends to either exaggerate things that happened in the past or dramatize what might happen in the future, both of which won’t solve anything. They know what bothers them and they try to find solutions with healthy thinking instead of engaging in endless loops of negative thoughts.mentally strong people

5. Let Other People’s Opinions Get to Them

They take criticism with an open mind and they don’t let it belittle who they are. They believe in their strengths and don’t let others put them down.

6. Be Afraid to Ask For Help

mentally strong peopleAsking for help is not shameful and mentally strong people are brave enough to be vulnerable and emotional around the people that they trust.
