Marakez Reshapes New Cairo with District 5

Marakez is a leading real estate developer in Egypt, with a complete portfolio of residential, commercial, entertainment and retail projects. With projects such as Mall of Arabia, Aeon Towers, and District 5, it has expanded its offering to ensure that its products cater to the entire market. District 5, its latest project, is an ambitious mixed-use development that will reshape East Cairo living, which only Marakez, with its experience and track record in retail, services and residential development, can bring to life.

Welcome to District 5!

District 5 is the result of Marakez’s firm belief that high quality living is attainable and that you can find the lifestyle you wish to experience in your own homes. At District 5, you’ll find everything, from offices, sports, shopping, entertainment and all the lifestyle options you’re looking for. Marakez has built a suburban residential community with the qualities and convenience of city life. Marakez has been involved in a variety of projects, all of which have given it a wealth of expertise that allows it to enhance your experience, which it is placing at the very core of this project.

Work

There is no better place to work than District 5. An ultra modern commercial area will attract a wide range of business owners and entrepreneurs with provisions for a variety of professional services. Offices and co-working spaces ensure that there is room for every type of business, and will allow residents and business owners to network and collaborate from a single location.

Location

As Marakez’s flagship project in East Cairo, the location of District 5 was selected with excellence and convenience in mind. Among the planned 13,000 acres south extension of New Cairo, District 5 will be at the centre of New Cairo. Located on the Cairo – Ain Sokhna highway, District 5 is connected to the Red Sea. Closer to home, Wadi Degla Protectorate lies on the southern edge of the development, giving you easy access to the great outdoors whenever you need a quick break from the city.

Mobility & Connectivity

In our daily lives, connectivity has become an imperative factor that is a major part of our ability to get the most out of every single day. That is why Marakez has almost completed 2 major bridges over the Ain Sokhna Highway, right before and right after the District 5 site, seamlessly linking District 5 to New Cairo and surrounding neighbourhoods. – Wadi Degla 5 min – Road 90 7 min – AUC 8 min – Maadi 13 min – Airport 13 min – Heliopolis 30 min – Sokhna 45 min – Gouna 210 min

Play

Take a break, enjoy life and play. You rarely have to leave District 5. A myriad of leisure and entertainment options can be found in District 5’s Lifestyle Centre, including a cinema, a theatre, restaurants, cafés, fine dining options, and top international retailers. An outdoor plaza allows visitors to also enjoy the greenery and special family entertainment options where kids can play in a fun and safe environment.

Grow

At District 5, you’re invited to grow into the best version of yourself at the state-of-the art Wellness Centre and make use of the track, pool, gym, and sports pitches. Fitness studios will offer fitness classes, yoga, pilates, and meditation ensuring you connect both physically and mentally at District 5.

Shop

Walkability is an essential element of any residential community. That is why retailers, supermarkets and a myriad of other service providers such as banks, telecoms, pharmacies and more, are adjacent to all of Marakez’s residential projects. A subsidiary of Fawaz Al Hokair, the largest shopping centre developer in the Middle East, Marakez develops unique shopping centres that are within walking distance of its residences.

6 Easy & Quick DIY Kids Activities

Weeks in Sahel can become a bit repetitive for the little ones; break the routine with some DIY activities that can entertain and amuse for hours, on the beach and at home. Keeping your patience in check and your cash in hand.

Rainbow Bubble Snakes

In a bit of bubble magic, a dish soap solution morphs into a crazy-cool growing snake. Perfect! All you need is an empty water bottle from your recycling, duct tape, a sock that is missing its match, dish soap and some food coloring. Another one to take to the beach or reserve for yard entertainment.

Step 1: Start by cutting the bottom of the water bottle off.

Step 2: Next slide the sock over the bottom of the bottle.  You can use colorful duct tape to secure our sock, or a rubber band as well.

Step 3: Pour some dish soap into a shallow container with a little bit of water and gently mix.

Step 4: Dip the sock covered bubble blower into the solution and gently blow.

You can add some color to the bubble snakes with food coloring by dropping the food coloring onto the sock covered end.

Please remind your kids to blow air out not suck air in!  If your child sucks in, they will be eating bubbles.

Skee Ball

Dump out the laundry baskets for an indoor arcade game. Launched off a cardboard ramp, plastic balls score major points with bored kiddos. Keep the Skee Ball “station” set-up somewhere out of the way if you have the space and keep a summer-long record, turn it into a summer family tournament.

Crystal Names

It’s a twist on the classic science fair exhibit: Bend pipe cleaners into letters or shapes, and watch them grow sparkles overnight in a borax solution. Colorful pipe cleaners can be found at most toy stores and stationary stores in Cairo. Borax solution can be found at any pharmacy. Be sure to check the link for the exact measurements of the solution.

Stamped Shirt

Sure you could use potatoes, but halved bell peppers make their own intricate designs when dipped in paint. Try shades of green for shamrocks, or a pastel palette for a wearable flower garden.

Step 1: Cut the top off a large bell pepper, making sure to leave enough of the pepper so your child’s little fingers can grasp it firmly.

Step 2: Dip it, inside down, in fabric paint, then use it to stamp a white tee.

Sponge Water Bombs

Pull out these homemade spiky sponges for a riff on water balloons (that won’t cause bruising). Take them to the beach and watch the hours while away, guaranteed to curb nagging!

All you need to make these is sponges, rubber bands and scissors. You can use regular kitchen sponges that don’t have a coarse side to them.

Step 1: Cut the sponges into fourths, this will make it easier to make them all roughly the same size. Using 12 pieces for each sponge will make them nice and full.

Step 2: Stack up the 12 pieces, pinch the center together and wrap a rubber band as tightly as you can around the middle.

Step 3: Throw them all in a bucket of water in the yard or balcony and let the kids go nuts!

Flight School

These paper planes are perfect for kids — just fold, and let your imagination fly. Especially perfect for those dead hours between the beach and nighttime. Will keep them engaged for hours.

Step 1: Crease letter-size paper the long way, then fold top corners into center seam.

Step 2: Lower point to about 2.5 cm above bottom edge.

Step 3: Repeat step 1, then lift small triangle under folds so it points up.

Step 4: Uncurl a paper clip, leaving a hook on one end. Glue or tape it to center seam so hook hangs.

Step 5: Fold both wings down so top edges line up with bottom. Loop a rubber band around end of paper clip to launch.

Sa7el 2018: Seasons at Safi Beach, Marassi

A small but inviting beach shack sits inside the exclusive Safi Beach, accessible only to residents. It offers a new concise and cohesive menu, making it very clear where you are and what you’re in for: beach snacks. Think pizza, burger, sandwiches, salads, and some other exciting quick meals. The menu also offers fresh juices, cocktails, smoothies, desserts and shisha. Seasons waiters peruse the rows of chaise-longues and take your order without disrupting your tan-time, and then bring it straight to you. Or you can opt for a minute walk to the Seasons shack to dine there. Food is served in plastic and foil containers, making it one of the best restaurants in Sa7el for easy to take-away or order to go.

Signatures Dishes & Dishes Sampled

Signature dishes at Seasons include the Quesadilla Chicken, Taco Salad, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Mushroom Pizza, BBQ Burger.

Noon on a Thursday was the perfect time to sample the offerings at Seasons Safi Beach. Beach goers were only starting to arrive, so the atmosphere was especially serene. Striking azure waters lapped lovingly against a snow-white sandy shore, and the few tables in front of this beach shack were littered with brunch seekers.

We began with a sampling of the drinks on hand. First was the Frappuccino, a cold wake-me-up coffee with a kick, perfect for a beach morning. Then came the Mixed Berry Smoothie, tart and creamy, followed by the Oreo Smoothie, which was a desert in and of itself and would have served us better at the end of our meal, but still, was quite a rich and velvety indulgence.

After we whet (and wet) our palates came the Quesadilla Chicken with a sour cream dipping sauce, soft and tender chicken paired with melted cheese wrapped in soft tortilla bread, each bite was tender and juicy. Then came The Taco Salad and the Nachos, fresh, colorful and satisfying, perfect for sharing. Following that were the BBQ Burger and the Spicy Chicken Burger: definitely the hit of this mini-party. Both quite large, packed with flavor and layered with toppings galore.

We cleansed our palates with fresh pineapple juice, served right out of a pineapple, completing the tropical feel of Safi Beach. Fresh, tangy and delicious!

Other Menu Options that Appealed

Mushroom Pizza, Calzone, Fusilli Alfredo, Fried Calamari with Aioli, Fried Shrimp Sandwich, Mojito Peach.

Décor & Ambience

In perfect harmony with the beach mode. Very tropical and laid back. A wooden shack on a beach… you get the picture.

Price range: Very reasonable considering the portions and the excellent quality of food you’re getting.

Sa7el 2018: Salt Beach and Restobar at Bianchi

On a scorching hot day we decided to head to the latest to what is claimed on of the best restaurants in Sa7el, Salt, to cool off with some refreshments, grab a bite, and perhaps even take a dip in the sea. As soon as we hit the wooden deck nestled on the beach in Bianchi, it felt like we had set foot on a Greek beach; this couldn’t be Egypt!

Signatures Dishes & Dishes Sampled

Salt offers a selection of international cuisine with a fine-dining twist. Their menu includes salads, gourmet burgers, and an inviting selection of mains and appetizers. There is definitely something for everyone here.

We started off our journey at Salt Beach by asking the bartender to surprise us with a drink that would cool us off on a hot summer day.  The deliciously refreshing pink drink definitely hit the spot. The base flavors were strawberry, ginger and lemon mixed with a little special something that the bartender didn’t want to reveal. We definitely recommend this cocktail – ask for the French Kiss. We were then served our appetizers, a colorful Orange Arugula Salad, along with juicy Chicken Satay. The combination of walnuts, orange, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese and the light dressing harmonized perfectly together, a light and refreshing bite. The skewers doneness was on point, moist on the inside, served with a homemade tahini sauce.

For our mains, the friendly staff recommended the Prime Cut Tenderloin and the Teriyaki Salmon. The Prime Cut Tenderloin came served in tender strips, accompanied by a rich and bold peppercorn sauce and green beans, cooked just the way we asked. The Teriyaki Salmon came resting on a potato purée, drizzled with Teriyaki sauce. The plate almost looked like a painting. You could tell the dish had been cooked with love and the combination of flavors worked very well together. We were so impressed with this dish we would recommend it to all salmon lovers. For dessert, Salt served us their delicious Brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to conclude a delightful afternoon.

Other Menu Options that Appealed & Beverage Options

The Salmon Salad, Salt Dinner Burger, Fettucine al Gamberi and Salt Flourless Chocolate Cake with Salted Caramel Topping were tempting and are on our list for our next visit.

Salt offers a wide selection of hot drinks, soft drinks, sodas and homemade lemonades. It also serve alcoholic beverages, and specialize in Island Cocktails such as mojitos, piña coladas and margaritas (which you can ask to be non-alcoholic). You have to give the original creations a try, ask about the Salt Cocktails.

Décor & Ambience

The décor at Salt really stood out. The wooden deck is decorated with its famous blue and white colors, inspired by Greek architecture. It’s spacious and set in a beautiful spot, and the waves in close proximity give a soothing vibe. In the middle of the deck, there’s a well-equipped square bar with seating all around. The rest of the seating includes dining tables, or lounge tables if you’re looking for a more laid back experience. This place really makes you feel like you’re on a beach in Santorini!

The mood is very calm, but we are told it can get really packed starting from late evening. The relaxing playlist together with the sound of the waves loosens you up right from the start. Staff is very friendly and chatty and made sure we had the best experience possible!

Clientele mix: The clientele is a mix of couples and groups looking for an escape.

Price range:  More on the pricey side, but every penny is worth it!
