This fine dining nightspot offers a fantastic venue for both trendsetters and food lovers alike in New Cairo, and could easily be considered one of the best restaurants in New Cairo.

Concept: Restobar

Type of cuisine: Haute cuisine / contemporary dishes.

Menu overview: An extensive menu encompassing quick bar bites, appetizers, salads, entrées, a-la-carte fine dining dishes and desserts. There will certainly be something that will suit your mood.

Dishes sampled: Ora Restobar generously invited four of us to review the new venue. By chance, we realized that we were four people with completely different food personalities: the vegetarian, the picky meat-lover, the adventurer (real foodie), and the play-it-safe. We started with some bar bites and appetizers, each getting at least one item that would suit our taste buds. Their Bar Bites category has only fried options, and we opted for a few of them. Truffle Arancini – stuffed risotto fried balls served with Parmesan dip – made of aromatic truffle porcini mushroom risotto, simply delicious. Another Italian culinary tradition, Stuffed Ascolane Olives, which are mushroom-stuffed olives deep-fried in a coat of golden breadcrumbs. These irresistible little bites are served in a bowl of garlic potato dip. From the Appetizers category, we ordered the Cheese Platter and the Saffron Crab Fondue. The Cheese Platter was a nice display of a few cheeses, but the highlight was the apple-sauce that accompanied it. The Saffron Crab Fondue is a 4-piece dish. It is a crab meat mixture served in the crab shell. The creamy, saffron based crab mixture is coated with a Parmesan crust.

As we headed for our main dishes, our vegetarian option was the Homemade Mushroom and Ricotta Bigusto Pasta; fresh homemade ravioli stuffed with porcini mushroom and truffle ricotta in a creamy sauce topped with shredded Parmesan. Under Ora Specials, we chose the Diane Beef Medallion and the French Duck. The Medallion – two cuts of Certified Angus Beef (guaranteed quality) medium cooked, topped with Cognac Diane sauce, accompanied by peas, carrots, and pommes dauphine, which are deep fried crisp potato puffs. The taste, cooking aromas and mouth-feel of fats are crucial to the lure of meat lover. French Duck – sous vide duck breast (slightly crispy coat) topped with orange dressing infused with Grand Mariner Cointreau and honey and accompanied by roasted potato wedges. This dish is best paired with one of the house signature drinks, the Forbidden Fruit Cocktail. One thing we all agreed on is that our mission was not fully accomplished without the dessert. So we went for a sweet medley of Baileys Oreo Parfait, Molton Salted Caramel Cake (highly recommended), Apple Tart and the Nougat Glace. Overall, it was a very pleasant evening.

Other menu options that appealed: Chicken Madeira – grilled chicken on Madeira wine sauce served with potato terrine. This dish is harmonized with a glass of Merlot wine.

Décor: Ora is a luxurious yet inviting and comfortable restobar with indoor and outdoor seating areas. The interior is elegant, modern and sleek. As you walk in to your right there is a mounted wine cellar wall displaying wine bottles. To your left there is a leafy green back wall contrasting with the glossy, clean modern style. The indoor area consists of high tables, a bar counter with high stools and an elevated seating area.  The outdoor area consists of very comfortable seating arrangements and the bar. The landscaping is a work of art. A second bar is featured at the end of this beautifully arranged garden of palm trees. Do not miss their “fireplace table” that will keep you warm on the colder evenings.

Beverages: A buzzing bar with a large selection of artisan drinks to choose from, all created by master mixologists.

Clientele mix: Expect to bump into familiar faces.
