20th of April, Cairo. inDrive – a global mobility and urban services platform, one of the leading Ride-hailing apps by number of installations in the MENA region* – has installed 20 billboards and light boxes on poorly lit streets to serve as pick-up and drop-off points during Ramadan. This is to promote the safety of both passengers and drivers, during a time when many people travel after nightfall.

Traveling after dark can feel unsafe, especially when streets are poorly lit. To tackle this, inDrive has installed specially designed lighted billboards where passengers can wait with a greater sense of safety, while making it easier for drivers to locate them quickly. The added visibility enables passengers to see the cars’ registration number, the driver, and the interior of the car more easily, while drivers can, in turn, clearly see the passenger and space around. The billboards also serve as places where friends can meet up before sharing a ride.

inDrive selected several locations across Cairo popular among the company’s users where lighting is poor – including Maadi, Giza, New Cairo and Mokattam – for the project, and installed billboards designed to fit authentically with the surrounding environment.

Some of these have become popular attractions, with celebrities such as Menna Elzohairy, Rana Ashraf, and Mariam Elharaky incorporating the billboards into their videos.

An important part of the project is a public opinion poll to determine what influences the feeling of safety in the city. The survey will be conducted at billboard locations, as well as on the official website of the project. The company will share the survey results at a later date. The project was implemented with the support of Havas – a French multinational advertising agency.

Moataz Sayed, Senior Business Development Representative of inDrive in Egypt: During more than two years of inDrive’s presence on the Egyptian market, we have collected many insights as to how we could make the life of our users easier and better. Talking with our team, passengers and drivers, we realized that many people feel hesitant to travel at night, especially when commuting from dark and poorly lit locations. We brainstormed how we as a company could resolve that. This project is the outcome.

Safe city trips

Today inDrive is one of the most popular services for city trips in the Middle East and globally. The company invests in secure technologies and applies leading international safety features.

inDrive applies a system of mutual ratings of users. Both drivers and passengers can select the other, based on reviews and ratings.

There is also an alarm button and an opportunity to share live ride details with loved ones. The support service works 24/7. In case of violations of the rules of the service, the company takes measures and cooperates with the police, if necessary.

Only registered users can use the platform. Drivers also need to provide documents for the car and a driver’s license, according to all legal and state requirements.
