The frame of the face, the arch of the eye; eyebrows are somewhat essential to making our expressions unique. Most ladies are familiar with the sheer frustration of having over-plucked their eyebrows, or not having much to work with in the first place. There are plenty of options and products available to help, but some offer a more long-lasting peace of mind than others. Natural Brows with Microblading

Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo, achieved using a hand-held tool that allows the technician to draw thin hair-like strokes using a really thin blade dipped in pigment and planted under the skin. The color is not deposited as deeply as it is with a regular tattoo, hence the semi-permanent results.

The process results in a very natural look and can help achieve more youthful, fuller brows. Results can last between 8 to 12 months depending on the client’s skin, health, lifestyle and how well the tattoo is maintained. A touch up is required as the color fades over time.

Since the procedure is relatively new in the Middle East, Cairo West Magazine consulted certified microblading technician Karine Fahmy for all the specifics and precautions. Fahmy has been tattooing since 2009 and became certified in microblading earlier this year.

CWM: Is microblading suitable for all ages?

KF: Yes, I have a wide range of clients, with some in their 80s! However, its preferable that you are over 25 before making this decision, unless it’s for a medical reason.

What are the health precautions clients should take?

Do not take any blood thinners like Advil, Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Niacin or Vitamin E 72 hours prior to your appointment, unless it is medically necessary. Also, no alcohol or caffeine consumption 24 hours prior to your appointment. Do not use Retinol one week before your appointment as it makes your skin thin and you may bleed a little more. If you get Botox treatments, limit them to either 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after the procedure, and you should avoid booking a microblading session during your menstrual cycle as it can increase your pain. Also, no waxing, tanning or tinting 3 days before. Natural Brows with Microblading

What can clients expect after the procedure is over?

Natural Brows with MicrobladingI recommend the use of an antibiotic cream once a day to prevent any infections. No water, creams, makeup, hot showers, or sun exposure for a week after. Clients may experience some scabbing and flaking of the skin after the fifth day and should not pick at it! Allow the scab to fall by itself as manually removing the scabs prematurely can cause the pigment to come off with it!

If the scabbing is really annoying, I advise to apply a tiny dab of petroleum jelly or coconut oil just to lessen the appearance of scabbing. . more beauty tips here
