When it comes to sport, Egypt has a lot to be proud of! As much as the country and continent is buzzing about AFCON this month, there are a lot more sports Egyptians are leaving their mark on. Find out the 12 other sports Egyptians triumphed in this year!

Athletics

Fatma Aboseria won gold in the 100m run at the Special Olympics World Games, held in March in Abu Dhabi.

Ahmed Osama El Gendy won “The Arab Athlete Who Achieved Outstanding Success in Sports” award at “MBR Creative Sports Award”, one of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Global Initiatives.

Boxing

Nadia Abdelhafeez won “The Arab Coach” MBR award for her contribution as coach in training the Egyptian boxing team.

Crossfit

Aya Fouad became the first Egyptian woman to compete in a global Crossfit Championship.

Judo

Hatem Abd El Akher won a gold medal in the Judo African Championship in Cape Town.

Padel     

Ingy Ali Badr became the first certified female Padel coach in Egypt.

Squash

Raneem El Welily has been ranked World No.1 in women’s squash by the PSA.

Ali Farag has been ranked World No.1 in men’s squash by the PSA.

Egypt men’s National Squash Team won the MBR’s “The Arab Team” award. “MBR Creative Sports Award” is one of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Global Initiatives.

Cycling

Yassin Abdel Kader won gold in Cycling Fin 5K at the Special Olympics World Games, held in March in Abu Dhabi.

Football

Mohamed Salah was awarded the Golden Boot for the second consecutive year.

Gymnastics

Aya Hassan won gold in Level 1 All Around, Silver in Level 1 Floor Exercise and bronze in Level 1 Balance Beam at the Special Olympics World Games, held in March in Abu Dhabi.

Table Tennis

Egyptian Table Tennis champion Hana Goda won the African title U15 in Ghana. She is also a member of the Egyptian team that won the title for the African teams in the same competition.

Egyptian Table Tennis Champions Marwa Hisham El Hodeibi won the gold medal for Women 21 at the African Table Tennis Championship in Ghana after beating her twin sister Mariam in the final game 4/2.

Tennis

Mary Eskandar won double gold in Tennis Singles at the Special Olympics World Games, held in March in Abu Dhabi.

Weightlifting

Weight lifting champ Sara Samir won 3 gold medals in the African Weight Lifting Championship that was held in Cairo. She also broke the African record of 76 Kg.

Mohamed Ihab Youssef won MBR’s “Arab Athlete” award.

Wrestling

Samar Amer Ibrahim Hamza won the gold medal in the 72 kg weight class at the African Wrestling Championship 2019 held in Tunisia.
